My imagination is far, far exceeding my budget. But when I see a real 70's Alembic fretboard on Ebay, I want it.







Per the seller it's a 34" scale with 24 fret slots, 1 3/4" at the nut end and 23 1/4" (????) at the body end. it's just under 1/4" thick with the maple backing. Exactly the same spacing as my Phil/Bolt bass, or standard four-string P-bass spacing - might go that way just for something different. (I like how a four-string is something new and different for me I played a few JGB tunes on four-string at our last gig and didn't have much trouble.) Plus a four-string would take some pressure off my dad to build a perfect neck on his first try. His response was "I'm game"

Anyone have a good, hopefully scalable template for a Wolf body and headstock?

A really good copy is way more impressive to me than a half-assed creation.

But I like both approaches. My main bass now is a little of both, and this Wolfbass that's been rattling around in my head is very much in the same vein. Electronically it'll be a lot more adventurous, even.

Wolfbass, that's a thought.... "A really good copy is way more impressive to me than a half-assed creation"..... priceless and I have to agree. I use to be creative like that on all projects and aspects in my life, then realized on some things, there were others with way better ideas than me.

As for the Ebay 12 steps, "I am Jon and I just bought 3 pedals today off ebay I don't really need or have space for in my rig at the moment".

Pedals... oh, man. I'm glad I'm not a guitar player, because I'd have piles and piles of pedals, and dozens of franken-casters.

About creation vs. imitation - even Leo and Les didn't start completely from scratch.... neither of them invented the guitar, chose how to tune it, where to place the frets, etc. We're all taking elements of the old and sometimes adding something of the new.

Anyway, back on topic, the fretboard is officially on it's way to me. And what good is a genuine Alembic fretboard without a semi-crazy project to go with it?
