Well I'll just say that while we have alot of new tech out there, Facebook, Myspace etc. I wonder as I always do about the GD. Recently I had a notion about my FB page and the GD. Why I feel it necessary to "friend" Bobby or Phil or even Jerry? This seemed to me like a good way to stay in touch with the band I love and feel more connected to them. Recently some of the actual family members of the band have gone to these sites and it has become apparent that fans or heads have explotied them. I find this unexcuseable. I toured with the dead for many years and have met most of the band members personally. (yes Jerry too) and those are fun stories and fine memories of a time in my life that I would never forget. My point is, if you love them why stalk them? Any thoughts?
There was a time on facebook where you could make a friend request and then start seeing that person's feed, even if they have not accepted your request. John Perry Barlow had attached his tweets to facebook, and he never logged into facebook to understand that all of his tweets were being rebroadcast to people who simply made a friend request to him. Needless to say he was pretty pissed when he found out and turned off the feature.
On a different topic, I did create a facebook app for dead shows, although I really need to take another swipe at making it better, I was just testing out how to program in facebook:
http://apps.facebook.com/deadshows
you can add the shows you went to, miracle shows to people, and make a widget on your profile that displays them, plus this day in grateful dead history. It also has links to archive.org and my geographic data.
any suggestions for it would be greatly appreciated.
