When it doesn't fit anywhere else

Bankhead- you see how fate can be kind to you. You weren't destined to find that Mars 2112. And it worked out for the better-believe me. Your kids might have liked it, but you did better no matter where else you went.
I visited a friend once in Queens, and the bozo took me there with his wife and kids, knowing I was going to flip the bill. I told him I wanted to go someplace really cool with good food.
The food in there was like TV dinners served on dishes. The spacey atmosphere was limp, imagine your waiter dressed in a Star-Trek uniform, but talked like a hitman from the Luchesse Mob Family. The bill came to just under 100 bucks for 3 adults and 2 3rd graders.
And here is a little rag for the heck of it- when you commented about Edgewater looking like a primarily industrial/commercial zone--Yeah, that's the entire top-half of NJ. :thewave:

JJ:

I missed your write-up back in May! sounds like you were well-directed, and you had a great trip because of it. With regards to:

I would say your experience is typical for the non-a$$holes of the population. Supposedly Giants fans are even worse than Yankee fans, but I have been going to Giant's stadium when the Eagles come to town, in my Eagles colors/jacket, for decades and have never had a problem. Drunken a$$holes in "McNabb" jerseys screaming "Giants SUCK!!!" at the crowd are generally abused pretty heavily, but 99% of the people there realize it is just a game so anyone watching, cheering for their team etc. just fits right in.

On Mars 2112: The kids love it if they are young enough. It is really cheesy. If Highballin fed 3 adults and 2 kids at that place on less than a C note, I'm guessing nobody ordered a beer, or a milkshake. The prices there are brutal. It is a little hard to find too.

thanks again guys. By Giants gear of course we were repping our beloved SF Giants, and i figured there would be some Bonds cracks, but everybody was super cool, its nice to get to sit with folks who just love baseball, very few blackeberrys and iPhones out during the game.... cant say this is true of the typical person sitting at at&t...

but the Mars 2112 thing was definitely for the kids, my daughter who was 8 at the time was devastated we didn't get to eat there so i have a promise to keep that we will go back and eat there.

as far as the food/experience of Mars2112 that's pretty much what i expected. I lived for a while in Monterey, ca and most of your water front places serve frozen cod and salmon and jack up the price as they are selling the "experience". It's basically Denny's/ Lyons with an oceanfront view. with this in mind i figured Mars 2112 would be a menu full of overpriced corn-dogs and chicken nuggets...

The ESPN zone was a great place for us as tourists, we got to see the Giants game (lincecum's first complete game/shut out) and we sat in these big recliners... the kids thought that was great and the food was reasonably priced, and the beers come in very big glasses :drink: .

the pizza at grimaldis was spectacular, a friend of mine lives in brooklyn and said we should stop by there.

having lived in touristy places i usually try to avoid the places designed for tourists and try to find the mom and pop joints. The food is usually better and the people are usually nicer. grimaldis was a testament to this.

we will return to the bigapple and i have promised my wife i will do my best not to focus the trip around a baseball game
