Hey Spilly, thanks for taking the time to post this. If you're planning on making this a long term lesson for your students, I might suggest using a different format than text. It's pretty hard for a noob like myself to visualize the shapes with all the dots and stuff going on. A graphic of the fretboard and notes instead of text would be much clearer. Kinda like this:


I used this site:

to grab images of the C major scale and the C major chord, then I overlayed them in photoshop. It took about five minutes and beats the hell out of having to type all the scales by hand. If you want a more detailed description of how I did this, just let me know.

To tell the truth, I really like Spilly's type writer look to things. There's a simplicity to it that doesn't distract you. The emphasis is where he wants to lead you rather than a generic "does-all" fretboard map.

I've seen the fretboard maps before and they do almost nothing for me. I already know the shapes. But Spilly is making me feel comfortable with his ptresentation. It is as though I can get this, whatever this is. I also like that for me to get into the discussion and participate in the concepts, I can easily copy his diagram and edit it to make my response questions heard.
