I recently got linked to a 'favorite Jerry moments' video on youtube that was interesting and thought it would be cool to hear if anybody here has any exceptional Jerry moments or stories from an attended show that they would like to share....I was only 13 when Jerry left us, and unfortunately never had the chance to see him...

The moment that he grinned right into my eyes during the solo of Crazy Fingers 4/15/88.

The way he walked out on stage, sometimes a quick wave and turn his back to the crowd, somtimes no wave. A little noodle, a little nod to the band and then the fun really would begin

There's a few, but the one that is most memorable at this point is 7-2-85---the last song of the last show of summer Tour in my hometown when Jerry began Brokedown in the wrong spot....played it a little... all the while Weir is trying to help him realize he's in the wrong spot. Then, he realizes he's messed it up and kinda laughs and says "sounded pretty good didn't it". Jerry then proceeds to start it again, correctly that time.

Also, Oxford Maine 7-2-88 first set. The band is talking alot to the crowd between tunes (rather rare in itself) and at some point amongst the banter about "we want Phil" and "we want Brent" etc.., jerry says "we want volunteers from the audience"

Place exploded with that one.

Yeah, he really owned the stage without having to try to.

Favorite Jerry moment ... 1983 late fall early winter Jerry Band tour on the east coast, tower theater, Orpheum, Burlington vermont, passaic, a bunch of dumps, jerry was getting ripped every night and really goofing off a bunch on stage and ripping it up .. that tour will always be in my heart as special

"Dean and I sat alone in the back seat and left it up to them and talked. "Now, man, that alto man last night had IT-he held it once he found it; I've never seen a guy who could hold so long." I wanted to know what "IT" meant. "Ah well"-Dean laughed-"now you're asking me impon-de-rables-ahem! Here's a guy and everybody's there, right? Up to him to put down what's on everybody's mind. He starts the first chorus, then lines up his ideas, people, yeah, yeah, but get it, and then he rises to his fate and has to blow equal to it. All of a sudden somewhere in the middle of the chorus he GETS IT-everybody looks up and knows;they listen;he picks it up and carries. Time stops. He's filling empty space with the substance of our lives, confessions of his bellybottom strain, remembrance of ideas, rehashes of old blowing. He has to blow across bridges and come back and do it with such infinite felling soul-exploratory for the tune of the moment that everybody knows it's not the tune that counts but IT-" Dean could go on no further;he was sweating telling about it."- From "On the Road"- cassady talking about a jazz musician

whenever i discover a transcendent moment from jerry and the band i think of this passage. i think it perfectly describes what deadheads were seeking. these moments stand out in my mind(keep in mind i was too young to see the dead so these are purely musical moments)

I have a bunch of dead bootleg DVD. One of the greatest is "Terrapin Tuesday" which I cannot find it or the date. But it was post-coma and Jerry starts dancing around during Terrapin. He is obviously thrilled to be onstage and it's incredible to watch and hear. He does a bunch of leg kicks and actual dances a little.

I have an email out to someone about the actual date.

In the Des Moines fairground they had trouble with the wall of sound. As I recall Bob says something like 'their going to have to fix it and that takes TIME.' then other band members start going 'oooh time, time etc.' in spooky tones. Jerry steps to his mike and says 'Time is a subjective phenomina.'

here is the date. Thanks to ex-brw'er and Current Shakedown guitarist Jeff Martinson for pulling the date off the top of his head......

3/24/87 - Hampton Virginia

that's Terrapin tuesday.

I have a copy somewhere and will dig it out. Be glad to send a few out if you email me. I do have over 100 Dead DVD if anyone is interested......

Jerry was amused.

We had front row right in front of Jerry a coupla times. Once at Kean College (my Mom taught ESL there in the 70's/80's, and used to get us tickets for shows including JGB, CDB, PPL) and also at The Knick in Albany (purchased from a local Ticket broker in Cranford, NJ). We actually used those front row Knick ticket stubs the next year to get way down front again (some of us were luckier than others on that note).
Anyway, one point that always sticks in my mind as a fave, was from a MSG show... when Jer hit the downward strum just as he sung "...Just One More Time" and came up from the strum with his right index finger giving the "one more time" motion (kind of like he was out front looking for a miracle ticket).
I thought that was so cool, and I like to do that too whenever I do that tune.
Some other of my fave Jer moments were when he was onstage by himself (or some non-full-band arrangement) during space, playing some very cool octave/wha passages (often way down low in the open string area) during points of a Space segment.
