I was poking around and found this extensive comparison on TDPRI of the Joyo American vs. the Tech 21 Blonde it copied. Lots of graphs and science stuff, but the result is that the Joyo comes out on top! My interest is peaking.

ROTFLMAO!

Well since I can’t play with my bands, I’ve been messing more with equipment. This thread has me back on the path to the ultimate grab ‘n go rig. I’ve got both a Valeton Coral and a Joyo American Sound on the way.

I also just bought a 3U rack. My “big rig” is currently a 2U rack with an Alembic F-2B stereo preamp>Carvin DCM200L stereo power amp>two 1x12s loaded with JBL K120s (one with a hemp cone). I’m going to add an Alembic SF-2 Superfilter that I’ve have lying around.

Sorry for the brief detour. Now back to the regularly scheduled thread. I’m looking at several small power amp options, but that Carvin Mach 100 is looking awful good.

Ohhh, nice rig, I bet the hemp cone on the JBL smooths out some of the ice, nice 👍

I love my Carvin Mach 100 - it’s so small and powerful for its size. Also, I realized that even though it has the “wart” on the power cord, it IS narrow enough to effectively tuck it under even the smallest of boards like you would the power supply. With something like the Pedal train spark power supply it would first easy even on a small
Board.
In regards to the issue of wanting to bridge the amp for the total 100w. I did some research and found out that the best way to do it may be to wire your single cab with parallel input jacks. Then simply plug in both speaker cables from the Carvin and the cab then wires them in parallel to the speaker. Havn’t tried this year, but sounds promising 👍

Is the Valeton Coral for reverb or overdrive? Can you tell us more about why you chose this?
 #169436  by lbpesq

The Valeton Coral is a two channel preamp pedal that allows you to assign different amp models from a choice of 16 different amps to each of the two channels. It seems like it can also be used as an OD. I admit it sounds quite ambitious in a mini pedal format, and I’m not convinced it won’t turn out to be a “jack of all trades, master of none”. But the reviews are impressive and at $65, including tax and shipping, I thought it was worth a try. If I don’t like this one, I think I’ll try one of the Mooer preamp pedals next. I’ve read good things about their Fender pedal.

For reverb, I use the T.C. Electronics HOF mini.

I’ve been messing with Mooer Two Stone for an upcoming review and found that it gives some really great tones - the first channel is like a glassy clean (think modern fender) and channel two is a Dumble like OD. The only down side to the Mooers is that the knobs are tiny and hard to dial in or see where your settings are at - also there are some quirks when switching channels - you can program the foot switch to switch channels which is cool, but then you need different settings for each channel. It will remember the settings but then if you go to tweak them at all you need to watch out because however the knobs were set for channel one will kick in and these can be extremely loud for channel
Two. I almost lost my hearing doing this lol (not funny tho)

It’s a bit like they are TOO small- if they would have made them
A little bigger I think they’d be a bit more practical. Just my two cents tho

Yea, I suspect that will also be an issue with the Coral Amp. But I tend to find settings I like and leave then there, so I don’t think it will be too big a problem for me. This is one area where the Joyo, being a bit larger, may have an advantage.

"So your OD pedals hit the Quilter preamp? I’m a bit confused, can you clarify your setup with the Quilter and the preamp? This may help others who are using the Quilter and find this thread later on, especially since you found a way to make the Mutron sing."

So I'll start with I'm not sure I do this any better than anyone else or that I make the Mutron sing so to speak.. I actually use the HAZ mutron that most people don't like. I bought it new in 2000 or so I played the Q-tron I played the HAZ I liked the HAZ better. I found it necessary to tweek the EQ under the battery cover to get the tone I like..

The guitar has Dimarzio super 2 coil tapped Waldo buffer No OBEL > Boss tuner > SD1 > OD3 > F2P > Quilter 101 > K120 The Loop is quilter loop FX > Microvibe > OC-3 > HAZ Mutron > DD3 > Wampler Faux Reverb > Quilter FX Loop

The way built my rig is I have been following the threads here for years about mini rig. I use a Suncoast F2P because it's a pedal not a rack unit, and because it was cheaper than an SMS it was supposed to be my backup rig. I think the plate voltage works ok because I'm using a solid state quilter so there is no need for more plate voltage.. Through the tube power amp you will get that classic deluxe style lag it won't sound like a Twin it will sound like a Deluxe.. That's my informed opinion...
The MKII looks interesting to me so does the Carvin this has been a fantastic thread

If there is a secret to making the Envelope sing I think it's how you approach the picking ??

Well, not a secret but Jerry used the OBEL to achieve this. The essential concept is simply being able to posthumously boost the volume of the EF so the same thing could be achieved by placing a volume pedal or clean boost after the EF in the chain. I also think the Microtron sounds cool with OD going into it (FOTM - DITS type of lead tone)

That’s precisely how I do it. When I had my custom Alembic Further built, I eschewed the OBEL as I prefer to use a wireless. Instead, I have a volume pedal last in my chain. I usually have my guitar set at “10” so my pedals always see the same signal. This gives me the same consistency that Jerry was going for with the OBEL.

I'm also have a Quilter 101 Mini Reverb. I’ve been experimenting with putting a couple of different ODs in the effects loop. I have a Gigrig Remote Loopy 2 which gives me a two button footswitch at my pedalboard that allows me to control two separate channels in the amp’s effects loop.

Lol ... just to add to Bill’s train of thought, once I realized how simple it was to wire an OBEL (simple wire a DPTD switch between the pickup selector and volume pot then wire to a TRS jack) I considered adding it to my Carvin DC145 - but in the end opted against it as is just seemed excessive and cumbersome - the volume pedal solution works just as well and cuts out the need for junction box, trs cable etc.
Back in the day it was “the more complex the better” but nowadays it seems to be more like “more simple = more good”
