I've been saving up some $$$ and am close to getting serious about buying one of these guys' axes. They look pretty nice. Was wondering if anyone had ever dealt with them, bought any of their guitars, or has a friend who has ever bought a guitar off of them? Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

Also, if anyone has had any experience with them or their guitars, I am looking at either purchasing the Lightning Bolt or the Fishy Hollowbody, and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts?

You're comparing apples and oranges there a bit... i think both guitars look great, but if you are lookin to drop that kind of money on either of them you better know for sure that you want a solid body or that you want a hollow body... both styles of guitar are going to make completely different sounds and it is all about personal preference. I'd say figure out whether you want hollow or solid and then you're choice is made...

...i just can't leave this post without saying, never buy a guitar you've never played... (sorry i used to work at a music store and had alot of people that wanted to do that)

You are spending a tone of dough, trust on this, look at a Parker Nitefly. Roughtly same cost but they also add in a piezo pickup under the bridge for true pickup sound (electric acoustic that is), some kevlar like material over the fretboard, and it is truly designed like an exo-skeleton so it is light but so freakin' toneful.

Yes, I am saving up for one.

Thanks for the input, guys. Yeah, I'm aware of the difference between a hollow body and a solid body, I'm just torn between the two. I love different things about each one, so I'm having a tough time making a decision on which one to go with.

I think I'll go down to the music store and start playing hollow bodies a little more. I've never owned one, and never played one for an extended period of time, so that'll do me some good.

Also look at Alembic. Doug Irwin worked for them when he made "wolf" for Jerry. That's as close as you will get to the real thing. They make a Wolf copy called the "Furthur," and a "Tiger" copy called the Tribute.

Hope this helps. I have one of the lighting bolt replica from pat and tim's shop. I got it about two years ago as a grad present from my parents. Anyhow My lighting bolt replica was called the tahiti bolt and was $4800. Quite pricey but the guitars is worth every penny in my eye. The look of the guitar is incrediable both pat and tim have outstanding craftsmenship. THe sound of the guitar is the true beauty though. Great tone and can get a variety of pick up combos with the bolt. WHen i looked to purchase a guitar i had the option of having them built one from scratch or purchasing one that was already made. I decided to go with option 2. At this time Time sent me pictures of all the guitars and a full description of the components and the sound of the guitar. Tim does a good job of this considering he is a creditable musician. After that it's all up to you. GOod luck with your buy and i hope you enjoy the guitar as much as i am. Peace Grease.

Uh, I appreciate the info, that was cool. But, I don't think I'll be going in that direction. I just checked out a price sheet for the 2 guitars you mentioned amde by Alembic - the "Furthur" is selling for $7,900 and the "Tribute" is selling for $9,200!!! A little out of my price range, to say the least. And I thought $5,300 for the Lightning Bolt by Resurrection Guitar Co. was steep. Sheesh!

They look nice, though...do you own one? If so, tell me about them, I'd love to hear about it.

That looks like a really nice axe, I bet it sounds incredible. Still, I checked their site (thanks, btw) and the Tribute's are still pretty damn expensive.

Alembic or Resurrection? I couldn't answer that in a way to benefit you. I would say yes, get the Alembic, but the gent who owns the Resurrection would say to get that one. Both are finely hand crafted guitars. Now, you could call Mica Wickersham at Alembic. She is Ron and Susan Wickersham's daughter and they created the Wall Of Sound for the Dead and recorded Live Dead. The Alembicized Phil's bass etc. Lots of history there that you can read on their site. But call Mica. This is a small company and they answer their phones. That way you could choose in your mind which one would be better for you. BTW, My Tribute was $6400 and the a close frind just bought a Further for $4995. Good luck! These are two incredible manufacturers of guitars and that just makes your decision tougher!

I'm currently having a Bolt built by Tim at Resurrection, scheduled to be completed this December. I have full faith in Tim that he will deliver exactly what I am looking for. Being in CA, I don't have the opportunity to drop by his shop. The price is what it is. With Tim, he will do pretty much any tweak that you can imagine. Prior to ordering mine, he sent me 3 CDs of pics of his work - probably close to 1000 pics. That impressed me.

BTW - The tahiti bolt was on there. Nice looking guitar.

I play a customized Fender, but if you ask me:

If you want an Alembic guitar that's already set up with an onboard FX loop, get a Further or Tribute. What amazes me about the price on those is those are the base prices - adding fancy inlay work can quickly top 20 G's!

But if what you want is an exact or near-clone or even just the same body outline as of one of Jerry's Irwin or Cripe guitars, order a Resurrection, or maybe a Reuters http://reuterguitars.com/mainsite/jerrycaster.htm or get on the waiting list for a Moriarty http://www.moriartyguitars.com/index.htm. All are top quality luthiers but Moriarty has done the most exact, eye-fooling Tiger and Wolf replicas I've ever seen (photos of... they were in the Yahoo Gearheads group, now I can't find the Tiger pics)
