I'm going to have to with "I Will Take You Home". I think the first itme I heard it was on the "Dozin' at the Knick" release, and fell in love with it. Here are my top 5:

I really missed Tons Of Steel after they stopped playing it in like 87...

...but I really loved it when they broke out Easy To Love You in 90 and I got to see them play it three times!

Overall though, Blow Away blows everything away. Check out 4/15/89, 12/8/89 and ESPECIALLY 7/7/89 for fantastic versions... the guy was really starting to channel Pigpen in the closing raps to this song.

Far From Me was always great to hear too. 4/9/87 has a fierce Garcia solo!

I agree, Blow Away gotta take the prize. The live version on re-release of Built To Last is boss.

Then again, I Will Take You Home and Love Doesn't Have To Be Pretty are pretty damn great too.

I always wished they would've let brent take a run at pigpen's old covers instead of bobby. I love bob but, just think how rockin it would've been to have brent doing midnight hour, lovelight, good lovin, or Big Boss Man. Back to the topic at hand, for me my favirote brent origanals are a little light and blow away. I liked brent's voice the best when he took a short vocal solo during a song like, Let the good times roll, Rooster, Stranger, Shakedown, Women are smarter, Gimme some lovin, ect, he gave all of those songs the extra push of energy that really took it over the top.

Ive always thought Brent was underappreciated, sure he used some cheesy midi stuff sometimes, but when he was on the organ he ruled.

But to his credit MIDI simulations do sound best with keys.

Bobby and Jerry's MIDI with strings never sounded as realistic as Brent's

in my opinion, brent was their worst keyboardist. i like JGB a lot more with Seals, no doubt. Brents voice was too hardcore eighties, along with all his synth stuff.

but he's so damn good!

now this says something about their keyboardists.

I will take you home is my favorite. i always kinda skip over brents songs whenever i listen to records/tapes/cds...not saying i hate him, id just enjoy a good Bertha or Eyes.

As far as straight hands and keys, Pig was the worst IMO.
FTR - I love Pig and his voice and how he had the boys jamming!

Then comes in Vince with his repetitiveness.
Then Kieth for his lack-luster ending of his career.
Then comes in TC for his too short time
Then comes in BH for not taking the seat when offered

And who does that put at the top as the best?! Brent!!!

I sometimes skip to a Brent tune, "Maybe You Know" on 4/20/1983 for instance.

Is there a need to find things to pick on the other keyboardist about in order to uphold Brent as the best? Like Keith, Brent sometimes allowed substances to impair his musical ability. Like TC, Pigpen, Vince, BH AND Keith, he was in the band for far too short a time.

I too prefer Seals in the JGB. But that's another thread I guess.

Of course not. Is there a need for the board,this thread, the internet? No, it was just point of view and last time I checked that's why we came here to exchange opinions.

However is it relative to the conversation, indeed so.
