So while searching youtube for some videos demonstrating the Emma Discumbobulator, I ran across the following and found it interesting. I had never really tried to deconstruct a guitar sound to discern the effects used, but I could actually hear each of the distinct effects used here, and I was fascinated.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, this isn't a U2 forum, but I'm finally starting to learn how each effect contributes to a sound and wanted to share. I also did a quick search of the forum, and saw this briefly mentioned in the "Order of Effects" chain, but more in conjunction with the combination of using both a wah AND an envelope filter simultaneously. And on a side note, based upon the comment in that threat, if my posting this pisses you off, Chuckles, please accept my apologies in advance!

OMG, that thread was a long time ago...

No worries... you're not on my hit list... 8)

Actually, I really like U2... I just wouldn't want to be pressed into layering f/x like the Edge does, because I wish I could just get my Emma to behave sometimes... Gotta gotta gotta get Waldo's buffer installed - that will make a huge difference. There was an incredible U2 tribute band I caught in Princeton a couple of years ago... they were tremendously talented, but I can't remember their name...

I also wish we could get some breakdowns of the various Jerry (or Bob) effects like this. Building the final sound is a multi-stage process and I tend to get hung up on one or two, but forget the other one or two that come into play (eg: Scarlet > whatever transition... I generally start clean, then add the Octaver then dirt, but then am timid about adding the Emma.. ) Lately, the band has been rushing into Good People (Jack Johnson tune that I play with Emma licks out of Scarlet) as soon as I hit the envelope... which sucks, as I've got a lot more to say and more f/x combos to run to extend the jam...

oh, well.

I agree! does anyone have any? I am sure they are not too sophisticated since Jerry wasn't a pedal board nut, but I would like to know about some of Jerry's signature pedal sounds, especially his dirty signals, Mine don't come out like his.
