hello all. anyone know of a good location out there that would have posted the tabs for the melodies. a lot of times i find myself really feeling comfortable in a song once i've stumbled over the melody. so, anyone know a GD melody archive?

i was thinking it might not be out there, online at least. anyone have a favorite song book that might have the melodies tabbed or music notation? i've never been one for buying song books, so i don't really know what is what of what's out there.

If you can read music , get a Beatles book, they have strong melody just in the sheet music.

IMHO, you ought to try to figure them out yourself. That way you'll really know them well and improve your ear.

thanks, i have the beatles book. i'm more looking for a dead book. i'd be interested in seeing the sheet music too.

and i totally agree with you mttourpro. by ear is always the way to go, but it'd be nice if there was a collection already put together though. i can pretty much always find the melody after looking around for it by ear, but i think it'd be nice to see it on paper and get an image or idea of it that way too.

The Anthology song books are less than $20 each (on Amazon anyway) as is the Garcia/Hunter Songbook.

That would be so cool! I, too, love to learn the melody and find it often helps my playing the song as I can throw in a quote of the melody and it spices things up. Unfortunately, I don't have great ears for picking things up that way and while sometimes I can do it, it takes much time and I tend to be slightly off or I figure something out in a poor position and then spend even longer time trying to learn it in a "user friendly" position that also sounds good. In other words, it's a lot of work and I'm getting too old to spend all that time on a song ( ) when often there's others who've done the footwork. I find that the songbooks don't always have a melody and I'm poor at reading actual music, so the tab books have been better/easier to learn from. So, yeah, I'm with you, if anyone has melodies tabbed out, let's see em!!

I would check out the tabbed solos for dead tunes at the following sites:

Listen to the actual recording as you play through the tab and you should be able to pick out the melody parts of the solo.
I would recommend tunes like Mama Tried, GDTRFB, Brokedown Palace, Deal, Loser, BEW, China Cat.... to name a few that have great melodies to play leads off of.

I have never been able to see jdarks.com. I have seen it mentioned before but whenever I try to go there I get thrown back a page with a runtime error notice.
I don't see this with ANY other webpages. Anyone else? Explanations?

Try disabling script debugging in your browser (what are you using?)
If that does not work then try shutting off your anti virus software and see if you can open up the site. What AV do you use?
If that does not work then I would try using a different web browser.
If that does not work I would pound on the top of my computer and swear a few times.
If that does not work I would google it and see if others have the same problem and found a solution.

I have this book, and it has tons of songs with the melodies and chords. A great place for melodies, or starting out. It gives no real direction on intros or solos, so if you are looking for direction on that, this isn't the right book. But if you are looking for melodies, hard to beat 9 bucks for a new book with that much info.
