I was down in Austin this weekend, stopped by Rez Guitars, and some guy was in the amp room with a Telecaster, and I couldn't believe the great tone he was getting. Wow.

Walked in when he was done playing, and asked which amp he was using,and it was a 57 Tweed Deluxe amp, 12 watts, one Jensen P12 speaker. Holy crap, that thing sounded sweet. Great, creamy breakup and compression. Dripping mojo. I can only imagine what a real one sounds like.

About a $1700 amp, last thing you'd want for Jerry stuff, but I covet it.

I have to disagree about using a tweed deluxe for Jerry stuff. So long as your not really driving it at full volume I feel it does a really great job. I use a 57 tweed deluxe with a 82 Ibanez Musician. After AO put in the Waldo buffer it sounds really close to me. In fact, it was the best thing that ever happened to me tone wise. I did not know exactly what to what to expect when I got the buffer and switches put in. I was going to write about this with some pics when the project was all finished. I will soon as every Ibanez Musician fan will want to see exactly what was done. Simply amazing work by AO guitars.

Andrew added 2 Series/Split/Parallel switches to the guitar among a few other other things. This is nice and provides many tonal options. The biggest surprise was that while using the Split selection for clean Jerry stuff I started using the Parallel for solos. After a bit of time I completely removed my overdrive from the chain. With the buffer it provides just the right amount for that amp (Tweed Deluxe) to get the light grindy Jerry stuff as well as many others. I now only use a old Boss RV-3 (Reverb and Delay Combo) and the Tweed deluxe for Jerry tones and all around stuff. I did not even specifically ask AO for a Jerry sound when he started the project. It just so happened that the buffer made this combination of amp and guitar really work for me in a way I did not expect. If I only had a good mic I would put up a few clips to review.

The 57 Tweed Deluxe is a great all around amp in my opinion. The only change I am making is adding a 50 watt Weber Blue Dog (Ceramic not Alinco) as this will actually help with even more cleans as well as provide a bit of volume boost. I should add that I use a 12AY7 in slot 1 vs the 12AX7. Way better clean tones.

I dont play in a band or tour so I can see that this would probably not work for a big show but I sure would love to try. Maybe mic'd up with a good mic pre to the board?

If anyone has the photo of Jerry playing the Tweed Deluxe Champ backstage in the stairwell please let me know where to find it. I always loved that photo. Even the tye dyed grill cover he had on it.

Overall I recommend this Amp for Jerry, Trey, Neil, Gilmour etc...Nice SIMPLE, effect, light and a lot of fun. I left out expensive as it is a bit pricey. Well worth it to me.

Wonder how different a 52 is from a 57?

I was also looking at a 52 Telecaster reissue. LOL

I have a Telecaster at home, and it doesn't sound anything like that through my Vibrolux. That is some awesome circuit on that little 12 watt amp.
