Has anyone here purchased the new box set? I was curious to hear how the bonus disk of 1977-05-12 is as the soundboard does not circulate. I own sb's of the other three shows that I am very satisfied with the quality of, Is the quality of these shows on the box set a major step up? I believe my copies are from archive.org

It's pretty decent sound. I guess the slight degree better than previous sources is hard to notice unless your doing side by side comparisons. Those old Betty's just sound so good they don't need much help IMO. I don't know if the tracks from the Chicago show are worth buying the whole thing for. That's the first disc I listened to and maybe I just wasn't in the right mood but I wasn't too impressed. Solid '77 yes, but nothing mind blowing. There were Jerry mic issues at the begining of 1/2 Step and he was barely audible for the first few lines. I gues it's hard to WOW us, since most of us have all these shows in decent quality already. Personally, I'd almost rather see them forgoe these box sets for a while and put together some killer DVD/video releases. We need more Video!
I guess if they're gonna do more box sets, I'd like to see another Europe '72 release of like 10-12 cd's. There's still shit loads of great Dead to be mined there.

haha yea video of them live is always great to see. You are right with the idea for more Europe 72 releases there is truely a ton of great shows many of which would be incredible if they were remastered a bit to remove some of the hiss that is sometimes present. Thanks tho for the info especially for the bonus disc. I probly wont buy the box set i guess, im sure one of my friends will get it.

I dunno, I've been listening to this box set for a couple weeks now and not much is really jumping out at me. Yes, the Help/Slip/Frank on the 9th is epic as well as a few other tunes scattered here and there, but did they really need to release this whole run? Much of this stuff just sounds tired/uninspired/sloppy compared to many other shows earlier in the spring '77 tour. So far, a big Meh. Maybe I'm just in one of my "sick of the Dead" phases.
