I went back looking at older photos of the Dead and JGB stage setups in the 70's... plus revisited the notes on Dozin and Philzone. It looks like the Fender preamp into a Mcintosh poweramp wasn't limited to Jerry.

Phil was running a Dual Showman into a MCintosh 3500 in the early 70's, this evolved into an Alembic F2B into a Mc-2300... in the 80's, he switched to a GT bass preamp and various differnet power amps.

John Kahn was seen using either a Dual Showman or a Fender Bassman into a MC-2300 in the 70's as well.

Both bass players rigs with said to have been Alemicized and preamped like Jerrys Twin's.

Can anyone guess what my next electronic project is going to be?

This is all known ... plus that Weir had essentially the same rig as Jerry for most of the late 60's/early 70's, moving to the F2B at the same time as Phil, approx late 73.

The 3500's (make that a stack of them for Phil) were used by the GD for a pretty short time in 72 (and maybe part of 71, for Phil & PA anyway? Jerry was still using MC-275's on 8/27/72), then replaced by the brand-new model 2300's during late 72/early 73, and relegated to just the vocal highs in the 73-74 PA. Brief re-appearance in Jerry's Mesa rig in 76.

A Fender style front end with a Solid State power stage...Complete with the limiter circuit and autoformer. In a HardTrucker style wood cabinet.

Well, That's the plan so far.

Modded EB3 into a fender-style preamp for the 60's
My bass > F2B for the 70's
EMG equipped Modulus Q5 > SWR Grand Prix (out of production) for the 80's/90's and Mike Gordon

all mixed into a new sexy class D (I think is what they call it) power amp like a Stewart 2.1 or Lab Gruppen.

If you know how to build a Fender front end I'm very interested!
