What should I look for in purchasing a vintage DR?

Not sure what you're referring to but some old amps have had major sugery and the patient never recovered.

I'd say best would be no mods and you can change speakers/tubes if you'd like.

I've seen a few with added pots on the back and jury rigged wiring for some type of tone change...sometimes these amps can't be reverted back to the origional tone.

Not sure if this helps but maybe will prod others to chime in.
