Hello everyone I have a thought, I have a chance to pick up a Carvin DC neck through guitar for fairly cheap it is near new and it plays awsome. This guitar is beautiful! My question is its the same model as JK from DSO and it the same flamed maple color and electronics minus the jerry mods (which I would do) would any of you like to post an opinon about buying this? I'm OK with people saying Im trying to sound like Jerry I've been getting that for a LONG time but to be thought as the guy who copied the guy? I'm not sure Im ready for that. thoughts please. On a side note, I like JK alot and respect his playing. Also I saw Billy Ks band and his guitar player is playing a langudoc and I thought that was pretty cheesy.

I wouldn't think twice about it, grab it while you still can. Carvin makes great guitars. If you like it and it plays great, than just-do-it. The only hang up I have is buying a guitar with someone elses name, and especially signatures, on it (i.e., signature series), thats just me though.

There really aren't that many people who would even notice besides the people on this board. I've never held one but they are beautiful guitars. i say do it if its affordable.

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude. It'll have 3rd generation hiss and will sound shabby.

No, wait, those are tapes. HA! I'd do it and not think twice. Fuck anyone who speaks ill of it.

Actually the guy from Billy K's band is Scott Murawski(sp?) and he's the lead guitar & vocals for Max Creek, a band that has been around for a looong time, longer than Phish I think. I know for years he played an Ibanez Musician. With those Lang's going for $10K he's probably been waiting for a while to get one. I've listened to a few of the shows and the jamming is good, but Scott has to cover the solo guitar & vocals for both Bob and Jerry songs, and that's a pretty tall order to pull-off an Estimated in a 3 piece group.

I know who he is and I agree with being the one who has to hold down the songs but its still cheesy

Never played one but LOVE when their catalog comes !
Looks like nice stuff.
Neck thru - do it !
I cant find the thread but one of the guys here was saying he was doing some tech work on a Alembic and couldnt believe some of the issues he was having to fix on a high end instrument like that.
He wrapped it up by saying how he had no problems recommending peps save their bread and go CARVIN ....

The reason Scott has that Languedoc is he plays guitar with Mike Gordon's band. I saw them in Portland last summer and I don't know what kind of amp he is using but the guitar is pretty tame, he's not getting much scream out of it which is too bad because that's what it's built to do.

Also buy that Carvin and don't sweat it.

I've had two Carvins.
My first one was a DC127 which I had for a coupla years then traded to a guy for a Carvin DC727.
I happen to like Carvins, but I like most cool guitars.
If I ever have the chance I would like to trade for a DC747 or one of their other 3-pickup models.
I may have my DC727 fully modded to Jerry specs one of these days.
One thing about used Carvins... the most you should ever pay is 50% of orignal cost (this is based on my own research of used Carvin guitar values on Ebay and Craigslist, and talking to many Carvin players/buyers/sellers/traders).

I'd like to know what's cheesy about Murawski playing a Languedoc?

Nothing cheesy about his playing, I just meant he sounds a little heavy metal with Billy K. He sounds much better with Max Creek. I also think Trey sounds a little cheesy too so maybe its the guitar, I'm just not a fan of that type of tone. BOTH guitarist are great and I meant NO disrespect to them I just was stating an opinion. No flame was intended! :peas:
