Good job Kenny. I was aware of Bonnie Dobson but not the whole Tim Rose saga. What a twit.

Ironically, a friend of mine had an 8 track of 'Skeletons' and this was my first introduction to the dead and that severely edited version of 'Lovelight' is what got me hooked. Of course at the time I had no idea it was edited.

I believe it's the 'Live Dead' version edited down if I'm not mistaken.

Skeletons was the first album I bought from the GD.

Next was One From the Vault.

I realized their live releases were better than the those from the studio. Maybe not better but I found I enjoyed the live better. Then I started on the studios again again and appreciated the intricasies (sp?) of the tunes that aren't always apparent on live versions.

Now, sadly, I rely very much on studio when first learning tunes since it's easier to seperate parts. Then I go for every live cut of it that I have!

I too fell pray early in my GD experiance to the Skeletons and LST purchase. I did like the Mexicali on Skeletons though. I think that to new-comers, they seem to be a logical jumping off point unless you are forutnate enough to have a guide showing you the begining of the pathway to all that is GD.

though skelatons may have been a debotchery, it was my first intro to the band. My father left it in my stocking one christmas in my preteen years and completly fucked up what could have been a well rounded life in modern society.
so no matter what the atrocities, I'll always look on that album with the love and respect you pay to anything that completly changed your life.
