I love bob and ive been on the boards for a while. Ive seen the dead cover bands. everybody thinks they can cop jerry but what ive yet to see is anybody playing REAL bob licks. or any real bob gear? WTF! ok eaton ok jimbo ok if I forgot your name. no flame intended I just wish there was more attitude towards tone. Playin Dead has got it right ie VIC tone is what its all about my opinion anyway there is a new year comin around lets ALL work harder i love you JD

The last of my two cents, gear and tone are a huge component in getting Weirs sound down, but that's just half the battle. You gotta have the chops and that's the hardest part! Double stops, pull offs, hammer ons, triads, diads, stripping chords down and not interfering with lead guitar, bass and piano etc.... playing between the beats.. not being too busy etc. Oh and one last tip I found to be very important, a small pic that lets you get flesh on the strings. If your using a big chunky plectrum and not getting flesh on the strings your gonna have a hard time getting Bobby down. And lastly the single coil! And of course practice, practice, practice, listen, listen and practice some more! Happy Holidays!!!!!

thanks for the pics scott you know I almost bought that casio from you about a year ago I just didnt have the cash all at once at the time I would have loved that guitar. but that cowboy is awsome as well. you made the right move. I think the casio could be done again if you could find another neck, the modulus neck on yours is fairly rare. but they turn up now and again.

I do Bobby licks and have had his gear. However, he was always changing gear so it's kinda hard to cop a complete Bobby rig.

sorry to inject some shallow impressions into a deep gear discussion....

but Eaton is a beast! I've seen DSO a f ew times but the once it really struck me was at Baltimore's Rams Head. I had the help of a relatively small fungal supplement and a powerful brownie. Eaton was passionate, spitting fire, and i swear he was 10 feet tall. The fan was blowing in his face/hair and he was pretty much hercules. played pretty well too, and i thought he brought the attitude to bob's line just fine. Doesn't really look LIKE Bobby, but i certainly wouldnt say he was lacking attitude/energy.

Thanks Dan, I appreciate that. However, I feel I still need a lot of work to get to that vintage Weir caliber.

I agree with the stubby pics and flesh, and picking as well as playing with your other free fingers on the picking hand. I've been dicking around with the Blackknife(s) for years and finally I picked up a Ibanez with Trisound which is absolutely key. I can't understand for the life me why the Weir model Ibanez's don't have trisound super 80's in them. Blows my mind.




I've scaled back from this rig as of late. You guys want to pick up a sweet piece of gear that is awesome. pickup a AD-190 flanger/Delay a boosta grande and a Ibanez cp-9. It will knock your socks off.
