I agree that Yes without Jon Anderson is not really Yes, but the Dead without Jerry is probably even more of a stretch, to be fair.
......but Jerry's dead......it's not the same thing. The other members of Yes were simply impatient and did this behind Jon's back. That's just crap.
Anyway, Yes has always been one of my favorite bands, but through all their incarnations, I have always said that if the line up does not include Jon Anderson, Steve Howe, & Chris Squire, then the audience does not include me.
I'm with you on that one.
I will also include in that sentiment The Allman Brothers without Dickie.
ETA: An old friend of mine I was in a few bands with did a lot of show lighting work with Jon Anderson a few years back. He told me Jon was a very, very nice guy and treated everyone with kindness, so that makes it a little worse, in my eyes. He spent a lot of time riding in cars with Anderson for whatever reason, and played him one of our old band tapes. I can't recall now if my friend, or Jon said it, but it was said that "it sounds like Yes joined with the Grateful Dead" (which it sort of did, me being the deadhead and my friend being into Yes) upon hearing this, Jon's wife said words to the effect of "Is Yes merging with the Grateful Dead"? They both just kind of looked at her in shock...
Such a long, long time to be gone, and a short time to be there...
