So me and the guys ( http://www.myspace.com/wearejollies ) have finally managed to get our shit together and start making some progress in the whole realm of playing "songs" (what a strange idea... ), but we have an issue with getting the singing of the songs going. The problem is that we have nothing to get our voices louder than our instruments in a small space without some ugly feedback. I am fairly sure that we need a PA of some sort to get this resolved, but we have no idea what we really need. We don't have too much money to dish out, so keep that in mind. Anybody got ideas?

Without knowing your longterm goals on the application (do you want to eventually gig out at a small club, or host backyard party jams) and your budget, its hard to make a specific recommendation. I will say that I am sold on Carvin products. Carvin is mid-range in price, but mid-high to high end in quality, American made. Its mailorder direct from factory, unless your in California near one of their outlets. They cut out the middle man which reduces price. Check out their wide PA line. For your immediate needs, you could get by with something like the XP650 amp/mixer and 2 LM12 speakers, but not for gigging out. This would be the bare bones setup for where your at today.

Before I got my little Yamaha 200X200 mixer I used my 2nd guitar amp just for practice.You have to position it correctly to get rid of feedback. worked out fine for quite a while

I got the Yamaha for about $400 and am currently using stereo speakers that works out well until I can afford PA speakers.
