When it doesn't fit anywhere else

Hey All,

Dont hate me for this posting, but just wanted to see if anyone had read the letter on phish.com from Page McConnell about the speculation of a reunion. Apparently, they all plan on spending some time together when their individual tours end and see where it takes them. Its an interesting letter if you like Phish.

The thing gets truncated about three graphs in.

Their site is as sloppy as some of their playing.

Well Chuckles. I am a long time Head and a fan of Phish for about four years. I've seen the GD since 1988 until 95 and my first Phish show was in 2000 when i really wasn't into them.

That being said, i think it was a funny statement about their playing being sloppy. For someone who is on a Dead forum, you must realize that there were periods of the Dead's history where the boys, and especially Jerry were so fucked up on dope, they couldn't not only remember the music( or just messed it up) or the words.

The Dead's music was a lot more freeform than Phish. Trey wrote in fugue style and their music was very organized, as where the Dead's were based on the song and freeform jamming. Phish's jams were more intricate. I think musically its a no brainer that the only people in the Dead who could come close to Phish's musical knowledge on theory would be Phil and maybe Jerry after the mid 70's and Merl's influence.

So they are just different and they both have their amazing days and their not so amazing days.

i was going to say the same thing about the dead being sloppy. phish was an extremly tight band and there music is much more complex. That being said dead is still number 1 to me but phish os a close 2nd. Plus jerry dies when i was 15 so i have seen a llot of phish shows.

but yes i did read it and i am so happy to here this information. I cant wait to see those 4 guys walk on stage again together...especially since trey is clean and healthy and it sounds like page is clean and healthy as well..with the comment about..."living a healthy lifstyle".

UNTILL THEN

FALL TOUR 09...BRING BACK THE FUNK!!!!!!

Sheesh... unbunch the panties folks.

It was just a joke at the expense of the website not working. You'd think Phish was the second coming of Mozart....

Phil is the only member of the Dead who could approach Phish's understanding of theory?
:D :D :D :D

Composing pieces with awkward time signatures and varying repetitive patterns coupled with extended jamming on a given scale doesn't make anyone the next coming of Berio.

The bass player in my previous band went to UVA with these guys - they aren't the geniuses some here are making them out to be... just good players with (sometimes) interesting ideas who honed their craft through years of constant playing.

I find them incredibly interesting sometimes, and incredibly contrived and boring at others. They certainly didn't break any significant new ground; didn't do anything Zappa hadn't done better years earlier.

And, btw, this IS a Dead site... so don't be surprised to see fans disparaging the one-time pretenders to the throne. 8)

AKA University of Very-much Marijuana :D

Not a hughe Phish head, but I do listen to them from time to time. Probably would go to check them out, if the $ was right and they were near-by.
