'Went out to hear Donna and the Tricksters last night.
I must say it was a really good show!
They delivered the goods from a jam standpoint, for sure.
As you probably have experienced, or should I say, "imho", the Tricksters are a great jam band!
They have Mookie Siegel on Keys on this tour, and he is a really good player, both texturally and and as a soloist.
Jeff Mattson was rippin' some major skin, especially in the second set, which got really jammy.
Drums and Bass, again, really good players/playing.
Donna sounded really good. She had in ear monitors (not sure if she used them at all times) and live monitors (I heard her ask for more monitor after the second song). She looked great, too.
They also have a second female vocalist, who is a strong singer and also sang lead on some songs.
Besides the long instrumental jams, I would say the actual highlight for me was "'Till The Morning Comes", which was really killer.
They had 4 singers singing the main lyrics, and the bass and drummer were singing backup to that... and it was all "on".
Very cool, and again, some kill guitar playing... at the end of a long jam they fell right into the intro lick and used it as an outro.
Also, who knew "France" was such a great tune for a long jam???
Donna left the stage several times while the band did extended jams.
I got to breifly meet Donna (Mookies friend is our drummer, and I tagged along to the Green Room
).
I gotta say, in the here and now... Donna just seemed so F'n cool!
I was hanging just a few feet off to the side of the keys (just barely off the stage), and often felt like I was dancing with Donna.
I swear, one time she looked right into my eyes, and the message I received was "I was singing with The Grateful Dead when you were still shittin' yer pants, sonny".
It was great!

They also played "Six Feet Of Snow" by Little Feat, and one original that I recall was called "Travlin' Light In The Middle Of the Night". Cool tune.
