I second that.

sit in front of a piano or keyboard. hit a note that you think is within your range and try to match it. go higher and lower from that note to find the extremes of your range. play a melody or two on the keys while you sing along. do interval exercises (example: G-A-G-A#-G-B-G-C....). basically just goof off.

I definatly need to work on my voice. My singer isn't going to the same school as the rest of the band. I was elected singer, since i have the most decent voice. He is an all state choir singer. I need to get good fast. Any suggestions.

I love to sing while I'm playing.I'm probably a better singer than guitarist.

Question---How do you get to Carnegie Hall?

Answer--Practice. It's the oldest musical instrument(our voices)

Not that I am a great, or even good, singer but a common first step to improving singing is to record your voice singing and listen to it very objectively. What you want to figure out is "Can I carry a tune or can't I?" or "Do I sing on key or don't I". If the answer is no, probably the best thing to work on is your ear. Most people that sing off-key do so because of a complete lack of ear training. The advice of sitting at a piano and practicing intervals is excellent advice as it is good ear training as well as good vocal training.

Now, what to do when your vocal range is barely over 2 octaves and the tone in the higher octave is so horrid that small animals run screaming at the sound of it? I haven't figured that one out yet, but when I do, I'll let you know. ;-)

one of the things that helped for me was to play alot of stuff on an acoustic and match the vibriations from the guitar to the ones from my gut....if that makes sense. Kind of minimize the modulation as much as possible (like tuning)
