So, I always thought it was the Dead that recorded this song then I read It was Brewer $Shipley(who ever they where) Then I heard that the Dead played back up and Brewer and Shipley are the vocals heard on the recording. Sorry if this is a rookie question. Just gotta know. Peace

Jerry didn't play on that song.

The album is called Tarkio and Jerry played on one track only and that was Oh Mommy.

For some reason over the years Jerry has been linked with playing on One Toke Over The Line, but the truth is he never did.

The solo to 'one toke over the line' is country rock, kinda in the style of workingman's dead, and back then, that kind of playing was outside the norm. When people heard Jerry was on the album I think they made the assumption that that solo was him. Not unlike the Eddie Brickell song with the auto wah type effect that many thought was Garcia.

I always wanted to do that song live. Killer harmonies and the kind of song that just has that "hippie-groove" to it. Always loved it.
