Seasons Greetings all.

Anyone out there a seasoned iPod user?

Just got mine a couple of weeks ago, and something I can not seem to get passed.

Like the old Track-At-Once CD burining issue, it puts a space gap between songs. It's fine for shuffle play, but if you want to listen to a live CD straight through, a bit obnoxious.

I can see on iTunes where you can manage the crossfade, but not on the iPod itself.


BTW, I have the 40 gig unit. And double BTW, I found it amazing that there didn't seem to be any iPod forums/newgroups on the net.

As far as the space gap...it's a limitation of the iPod. It blows. It's like a .5/1.0 sec pause between tracks. It's terrible during live shows and "continuous" albums (The Wall, DSoTM, etc.). Nothing to do about it, unfortunately.

Thanks for the confirmation jck_strw, bummer, tho it is.

I guess you can use programs like Cool Edit to merge tunes that MUST be heard in succession.

I'm shocked. My Creative DAP Jukebox had this problem 5 years ago.

After a year in service, they came out with a flashware upgrade that taught the machine to pre-load the first few seconds of the next song before the end of the last one, so that the gap disappeared.

5 YEARS AGO!

Hey Ed - I just got my iPod and was wondering if you had come up w/ a solution to your problem yet? I've DL'd a couple of Phish movies and can only view one at a time, and not in succession as a show goes, as you mentioned earlier so sort of the same problem. Just wondering if you've found any way around it. Thanks.

Sorry shakedown.....first off, my iPod is old and doesn't even support vids. second, all I could do was to use a sound editing app and merge tracks so that they appeared as one to the iPod....such as Help/Slip/Franklins.

The newer versions of Itunes have gapless playback to the mp3's but as for the movies theres really nothin you could do about it.

Gapless Playback

iTunes now has options that enable the long-requested feature called “gapless playback.” This enables the continuous, uninterrupted playback of certain albums which were meant to be played without the short gaps that iTunes and previous iPods had to place between tracks. Good examples are live concert albums and electronic mixes.

To enable gapless playback for these albums, select the tracks in the album, choose “Get Info” from iTunes’ “File” menu, toggle “Gapless Album” to “Yes,” and click “OK.”

With this tag set properly, the iPod and iTunes will automatically play the tracks without gaps.
