My 8 year old daughter wanted to learn to play guitar so my wive found a first act acoustic in a consignment shop for $15. ( it wasnt worth it believe me) Any way she really wanted to learn so she played it for a little while.

Now I just bought her a red squire mini stratocaster. She thinks it is the greates guitar in the world.

It was great seeing her at guitar center showing off how she could play Peter Gunn.

That lick is stuck in her head. Anyway, she knows the first 3 strings pretty well and a couple of chords. She likes the dead but mostly wants to play Drake Bell songs!

Just thought I would share that. I hope she keeps up with it or her little brother is going to get himself a new red strat.

that's awesome man! get em jammin' some fire, it would be easy enough to orchestrate, and when they play with each other while sounding good it would just fuel the fire more.

it is way to soon for them to play together. My 4 year old likes the piano. I have taught him all the notes and a C scale using the proper fingers on both hands (only one hand at a time ) and mary had a little lamb. But with him he will only play about 5 to 10 minutes at a time.

I dont push either of them to play. I was pushed into guitar when I was 7 and hated it.

I wanted to play drums. Finally my parents caved and I learned the drums and I liked it but I was forced into a regimented practice and hated that.

So when I was 19 or so I gave up the drums and started to play guitar on my own.

I dont want to do the same to my kids.

The baby Taylor makes a good young girl's guitar, easy to handle, pretty good quality and a damn fine gig bag.

way too expensive at this point. she has to be really into it before I plunk down $300.

I dont tell her to practice. I dont believe in pushing her to do it. So far she's been pretty good.

She has her eyes on this Felix the Cat Martin. It sounds really good. We play it everytime we go into guitar center.

I hear ya Jackr, I first gave my daughter a little Harmony half size guitar I bought for myself at a good will and fixed the neck. But since she seemed to stay interested I bought the Taylor for Christmas one year.

Bought my 9 year son one of those strats last christmas and he's been in lessons ever since...fortunatly i found a really cool teacher who works well with kids...hope he stays with it.
