Have you ever seen that Black Throated Wind and By The Way, are written the same in short way:

BTW: Black Throated Wind
BTW: By The Way

So, BTW, Do you like BTW?? cause I've heard many people say that is one of the worst songs of the dead, personally, i like it very much.

I think Black-Throated is actually a very popular tune and is among my fiancee's (1st show:'91) favorite Dead songs.

Almost everyone I knew including myself were blown away that they broke it out again in the 90's (although they don't really compare to 72-74 versions imo, especially Jerry's intro figure.)

Yeah, I've never heard one head really trash black throated wind. and I've heard heads say they hate terrapin before

Also one of my wife's favorites. Last ratdog show I was at they broke it out acousticly and we boogied hard. Always a favorite of mine.

My group of friends I go to shows with use to rag on me hard becuase of my love of the 80's bob cheese. They would just roll their eye's at me when I would scream for a lost/saint or boogie to I need a miracle. I knew a dead head that hated tennesee jed more than anything else. Those dead heads are a strange bunch.

I have always liked this one. Never got to see the Dead play it. Weir broke it out in a RatDog show I saw, played it great and it was sweet.

this song is classic americana. great lyrics by barlow, imagery of being on the road, hard life and hard love, exhaust fumes.

if you had to do it, what genre of music would you describe this song as?

the best i can come up with right now is that it is kind of poppy psychedelic country rock.

great arrangement by bob, kind of similar style to jack straw, cassidy... kind of a loose rambling rock style going on...
 :D

BTW, FWIW I think BTW is a great song!!

The early 70's tension builders were tight and lean, cool song.

I'm one of those strange, picky Heads. I don't care for Jed (except a ragin' version). Miracle...can't stand it. Same goes for OMSN. Chuck Berry covers for the umpteenth time? Uhg.

I always thought of BTW as Bobby's answer to Me & Bobby McGee. Bobby obviously had an affinity for that tune as well. Didn't he and Kristofferson use to hang together?

I like BTW very much and have been messing around with it for sometime now. I have a mnemonic device for remembering the 'Highway the Moon...' part; I think of the term HOMEDICS, heh, heh.
I have been hesitant to sing this one in front of the wife, because of the idea of me emoting the line 'you've done better by me than I've done by you', as well as some of the other sentiments in the song. I'd be interested why your women like the song so much?

because they're the ones singing it to themselves, so the line flips the other way around, dont it?
