I hesitate to post this. On second and third thoughts, however, I think it might be a good idea, if for no other reason than to lend some perspective.

Disclaimer: I've posted around four times here, so I know I've got nothing on you guys..and no "cred."

But my relative newness to this forum is part of why I think it's important that I post this. I'm speaking to the rather ugly name-calling, politics and questionably appropriate level of dialogue be it overt or buried in an image tag.

I was so excited to have found this site. The music references and help are just great. Imagine my disappointment as I've watched the recent activity. It's really hard to offend me. As a matter of fact, I don't take offence at all. I just tend to drop my level of respect and expectations. I don't know any of you here. I sure got a warm welcome. But I wonder if I will continue to use this valuable resource. Forums like this one demand a certain amount of respect and reflection, irregardless of politics and sexual interests or tolerances.

Well, I don't need to go on. It seems there is a lot that should go without saying.

I'll hang around a little longer to see if I belong here.

This site is what it is. The extent to which "offensive" issues pervade is mostly a function of the energy spent on and lent to the offensiveness.

"If you ignore it, it'll go away" I believe the voice Kevin Costner hears in field of dreams would say.

In the end it's an issue for the site administrators to decide where to draw a line, if at all.

Ya same here. But hey, I think it worked out better than any other site I've seen. We butted heads, got all jazzed up, came down to earth, apologized, took it to a kind PM or two and done.

I'd say the best thing we can do is let the ripples in our still waters pass.

This site does a good job of self moderating. The only reason I think me & "Senor Tennessios" got away with being bad was cuz it all happened quickly before anyone with a cooler head got in there.

I gotta believe he is refering to the Trey going down on Phil ditty. While I can see the ones who worship Trey might be a little put off by that, to me, it is that the group has gone from sharing ideas on playing Dead tunes to a lot of useless posts that have me wondering what I'm doing here. I have learned so much from this group and hopefully have helped out others as well. But the last really useful post I can remember was when Billbill posted a killer version of Hard to Handle. That was like waking up on Christmas and finding a red rider semi automatic BB gun under the tree next to a really hot naked chick with a bag of shrooms. Well maybe not that good but I play that when ever someone says "show me what you got" and it never fails. There is a lot of talent in this group and it is seriously underutilized at this point. There are many licks that Jerry left us out there that are still a mystery.
