Today I was going through the weekly bags of leftover crap my well intentioned Grandma gives out. There at the bottom of the bag was a sky blue pick with vintage cream lettering. On it Ernest Tubbs Records. Anybody had a listen at Mr. Tubbs he died in the 1930's I read. As a side note on the website www.etrecordshop.com The have an album by Grisman, Rowan, and Vasser called Old and in the Gray? Any thoughts? I'm still a little mystified by the appearence of the pick, it plays great

I used to see him on a PBS show 'the Opry' or something like that. He had a guitar player that he'd always call out for a solo, Billy Byrd I think it was. He'd always play a short note for note redition of the melody. It was text book to the point leads. That show also had June Carter (pre-Cash) and Chet Atkins as regulars. Ah.. there is some benefit to livin' out in the midwest!

Ernest used to run a record store in Nashville and on the weekends after the Grand Ol' Opry show was over, he would host jam sessions in his record store that would last until the wee hours. You could drop by and hang out with all the stars in a small setting. It was damn cool..

Now the Opry has moved out to the Dolly-Wood amusement park but I still think there are late night jams all over NashVegas. Ernest was the one who kicked off this tradition.

BTW: Ernest passed away Sept 6, 1984 at the age of 70.
