Starbucks is selling this Dead CD. It's called Essentially Grateful(I think). It is a 2 cd set. One cd is studio and one cd is live. Anybody know anything about this?

I love Starbucks! But to me I view it like the icecream shop. It's a treat to have every once in a while.

Due to my line of work, not having kids, no cash to finance trips for 2, I take alot of vacation days and just hang out at home and do things I normally don't do like hit some new bike trails, motorcycle all afternoon, play guitar at higher volumes, etc...

Each time I take one of these days a large mocha and scone from Starbucks is the first order of business!

I drink the stuff(Starbucks) all the time. I actually had some Garcia wine the other night, some friends brought it over and said they saw it and thought of me so they bought it for dinner. Otherwise I never would have tried it. Koons is evil.

Interestingly enough I've always thought that it would take an especially tough woman or one who could detach emotionally if they were to be with Garcia.

Besides being on the road, from all accounts he was a tough man to be with being more in love with music (and drugs) than anything else.

Her actions don't surprise me.

You know guys.......I know DKG is an easy target, but you're fooling yourselves if you don't think that being financially successful is something that the members of the Grateful Dead were interested in. Do you like the Beatles? One memorable comment from them, "Let's go write a new car". Garcia was alive when they started selling his art work as ties......and they weren't cheap.

It's a double-edged sword too, isn't it? I mean, you meet someone that's never heard the Dead, or one of those folks that has a real false perception of the Dead, most Dead Heads' tendencies are to "turn them on". Guess what? Lot's of people like the Dead because A) they're pretty good, and B) Dead Heads turned previously non-Dead Heads onto them. Have you ever heard the term in Grateful Dead-dom "We are everywhere"?

They certainly are not gaining any (measurable) new fans from radio play or even touring. It is the turn on/word of mouth that has contributed to make them more and more mainstream. And it always seems to draw this mixed reaction when they show up in some mainstream channel.

I don't think our friend Koons has any say in GD stuff - only JGB and other Garcia Non-Dead projects.

Don't forget that the Dead sold all rights to Rhino.

A long time ago I worked in such a place, it may have even been a Starbucks but I can't really remember properly.

But I was young and it was a job I had for a few months to get me by. To this day I've never met so many ignorant people as those that came into the cafe I worked at, I had to bite my lip so many times to not start an argument. Anyway I started the job with longish hair, I decided to let it grow longer and grow a beard too. My boss didn't like it and told me to cut it off and have a shave. I refused and left soon after, he was a horrible old square, vowing to never work serving the public again.

I've done well in avoiding coffee shops since then and anyway like Tom Waits said - "you don't meet nice girls in coffee shops."

I have no problem with the widow trying to cash in. It is America. If she has the rights to that stuff she has the right to sell it.

If it was me, I would try to make money too.

If starbucks offered you a deal to sell your music through thier stores would you do it? Or would you sell that is selling out and you are above that.

If you died and starbucks offered your wife or kids a good deal to sell your music through their stores would want them to decline even though it would help them out considerably?

I was just trying to see if anybody already had this cd. I don't want to spend $20 and find out I already have the live stuff. It looked like the live cd had mostly earlier songs. It said something about being on Starbuck's new music label.
