I'm looking for a psychedelic show, no..THE psychedelic show,
but preferably one without some of the scary parts. You know
what I mean. A friend wants to get on the bus and I want him
to have a nice ride.

I'll be surprised if anyone mentions anything after '72.

Interesting, I've never really listened to Viola Lee Blues,
I think I at one point decided I didn't like and never
revisited it. I will now though.

I really love St. Stephen, it's probably among my top 5 GD
songs, so much energy! Also, it often segued into The Eleven
which I also love so it's a difficult song not to like.

The New Potato Caboose wasn't great, but the Viola Lee Blues
was pretty darn good. I'll keep searching for the "best" one
though..

What's up with Jerry and the guys not liking St. Stephen? I
seem to remember reading that they felt it (and other early
songs) were too tedious to play, but St. Stephen is by far
the number one song I use to turn on people to The Dead.

yeah viola lee is amazing,when they move away from the main theme into the long jam, and when you've almost forgotten which song it is and you're totally away....they drop back into the main groove, and all this 3 times

Sorry about that. It is One from the Vault. That could be another topic. That seemed to stop at the time that Dick Picks started coming out. But whatever it's called, the Blues for Allah is something heavenly magical when in the right frame of mind!

recording of it, but I love the album version.

No one has mentioned a dark star! I recomend 9/11/73 10/19/73 or my favirote 69 show dicks pick's 16 second disk (dark star>other one>dark star>uncle john's band jam>st stephen> the eleven.) That is a disk that will blow his mind.

IMO if you wanna grab a newbie hit him up with a powerhouse single setter from 68-69 with heavy R&B that launches into psychedelic jams and comes back powerfully into the tune.

Think of the Hard to Handles from that era...

August West Nice call with those two dates. 9-11-73 is my all-time fav show. And I just finished jammin that 10-19 ds a few minutes ago. Weird coincidence lol
