Just for fun I bought a Dimarzio Gravity Storm Bridge pup to put in the middle position of my Phiga Bolt. I normally switch between the Super Distortion and a Super II in that position. The Gravity Storm Bridge pup has a similar eq response as the super, with more mids and a bit less treble. It also uses an alnico magnet. My first impression was that it was dark sounding, but I turned my treble on my SMS pre all the way up, and the bass all the way down, typical Jerry settings, and it cleared up nicely. The tone is very woody, and precise. It's got a nice edge and ring to it. Sustains wonderfully. Sounds very nice split. I have to wait for my bands next practice to know for sure though. Also, a gig will reveal a lot. Anyways, fun to expirement! I'll get back to you all.

The Gravity Storm pickup is made in consultation with Steve Vai. Its output numbers on the Dimarzio website show the bridge pickup model to be a little less powerful than the Super 2 or Super Distortion. Not as bright as the Super 2 either. Bottom line to me is that there is no reason why you couldn't get Garcia tones from it if you set your tone and gain on your amp by ear, and do the same with the tone and volume knobs on your guitar. Then use your your hands and the way you pick your notes to get your end result.

I'll add that it would have been interesting if Jerry had lived a little longer and desired his own artist pickup model from Dimarzio. Would he have stuck with the Super 2 or would they have created something that better met his needs and desires? Maybe he would have come up with the Gravity Storm.
