I have a really hard time dealing with a HB in the middle position.

Any of y'all have the magic bullet here?

What single coil sized pickup sounds like the SD or dual sound in split mode?

Short version: nothing.

I've tried a few possibilities myself, and others here have tried plenty more. I also emailed Dimarzio this question and received the same answer. The laws of electromagnetism are not on the side of a single-coil equivalent. The closest I've found is either a Red Velvet or a partially unwound SDS-1. Neither is what I would call close, though.

Best single coil pickup that I have ever played is the D. Allen Voodoo 69's! So good, and nails Jerry! For me at least.

Although.........you should be getting good Jerry tones with a split super II. Describe the rest of your set up please?

The Voodooo 69s are great pickups, but I have never heard one that sounded like a split super II or Dual Sound. It's a different kind of great.

I should have mentioned I'm a fan of noiseless SC pickups...I wouldn't want to go back now.

I don't have a guitar with a humbucker in the middle, because I find my pick tends to hit the pickup a lot. My Strat doesn't have any probs in that regard. I'm thinking of getting another guitar with a fixed bridge and naturally I figured I'd try to snag the jerry middle pickup tone, but without the problem of hitting the middle HB.

I've got a lot of guitars and amps...but at the moment for the dead stuff I'm doing, I'm experimenting with a simple early 70s sound.

So it's just a strat, a little overdrive pedal called a "Tim" (it's nice as it has two separate gain levels) a color sound wah, and a little delay courtesy of my EH memory Man and I have a fuzzface that I use for some hairy bits in the atonal sections of help/slip. I'm looking at a few E follower options in the next few weeks...I'm leaning towards the neutrino, because my board is getting cramped. All that runs into my '66 pro reverb. It sounds nice...so there's no need to change it really, just thinking another guitar with that pickup tone might be fun. I'm not going for a clone tone at all BTW. I just was curious.

This first link is a quick demo of an amp I did many moons ago. It's NOT supposed to sound like JGs rig or anything, more Hendrixy and Floyd I suppose...even though I'm playing a GD tune. I was just me noodling around over a loop that was fun late one night. The others are just some other sample of my playing...there's a bunch on the site...though none are reflective of my obsession with the dead!

That's my Strat straight into an vintage Marshall clone amp with a little drive. I like it but it's not what I'm looking for in my next project at all. Just more a chance to blow over some great changes.

I think the overwhelming answer will always be a 69 style pickup...the Fender CS69 and DAllen Voodoo 69 always seem to be the ones mentioned. I had a Klein 69 that I thought was perfect. There is also a thread where Scott Walker gave a tutorial on turning a Super 2 into a single coil. Seemed pretty clever.

BTW, I have a Neutrino that I have only used a few times and would sell if you're interested. I hardly use an EF, and I already own an original Mutron...so this is redundant.

First of all...yes, I'll take the neutrino provided it's in good shape and works! 9178062six zero one is my phone.

Second...I get you as to the '69 style stuff.

I guess it's just a matter of time before I do the middle HB thing, but for now,mill just stick to a traditional Strat and block the trem. Maybe I'll do the blaster obel too.

Thinking of putting together a partscaster for the Jerry stuff and keeping my main Strat as is...with a floating bridge.
