the tonelab is by far the sweetest effect unit you could possibly own. i bought it not too long ago, and sold all of my effect pedals that very day. this thing is sooooo sweet i mean i could tell you all day but you have to hear for yourself. all of the perfect tones you want, hence the name. from the grundgy orange head, to the villanova uni-vibe, to the soft and full garcia auto-wah. the options are great. the thing i hated about my old processor was the fact that in different catagories of effects, you cannot run them simultaniously. With the tonelab, each effect can be stomped for independently which is the shit. i love the left and right input because at shows i use 2 2x12 combos, one on each side of the stage, so when i stomp for the leslie sim it sounds soooo real you have no idea. alot of people on this site play alot of the same sounding music so take it from me: you want this thing, you are hungry for it, and your leaving right now to go buy it, or at least going to guitar center to try it out, but i must warn you if you play with it you may sell the roof over your head to buy it

dude way better. i used to own the podxt, its one of the pedals i sold when i bought the tonelab. again, it has limitations that the tonelab doesnt. for instance: what if you wanted to use an amp model for a 2x12 combo for that vintage small amp bluesy sound, but you wanted the head of a much larger amp for the "b" channel for that huge solo your gunna play in 1:30 - cant do it.

oh another thing i forgot to mention. if you do have a channel switch for your amp, then your basically doing the same thing but with distortion from your amp which isnt gunna give you that tone you modeled on your xt, the overdrive will crank your volume up to nearly double and people will cringe trust me. but one of my main goals with buying the tonelab was getting rid of having 10,000 pedals to hook up, some contradicting others with issues like natural gain(crybaby wahs) and shit like that. i got rid of all 10,000 pedals and now have even more options. this was also the only pedal i ever used that i definately had to read the manual for, so keep that in mind when your at guitar center tryin it out and you cant figure out how to work the damn thing

I own an XT Live and am quite happy with it. I played the TLSE and found it to be great as well.

The limitations you described are not so much limitations but doing things differently. Example channel switching, you can set the pedal to be before the preamp and get a similar sound or mismatch heads and cabs.

The limitation I found with the TLSE are with the amp models beings so few and so Brit heavy while the XT was very diverse. Also, the TL has fewwer pedals modelled. Compare that to the BOSS GT8 which has great FX because Boss FX are great but limited other non-boss and the amp models aren't as good.

In my experience of the modellors:
XTLive: great vintage amp modelling, very good FX, need multiple patches for flexibility
GT8: great FX, very good amp modelling, great flexiblity in single patches, limited non-boss FX
TLSE: great brit amps, good non-brit amps, limited FX, decent flexibility

The biggest pro with the XT is the pc editor and the second biggest is simple recording. But I'm a live player!!!

Overall, if I wasn't well invested with an XT, I'd likely get one of the others for our style of playing.

Question - do you use it for amp modelling? Does it have a global EQ that goes over all the patches so if you are modeeling and the room makes you sound weird you just tweak one EQ and all your patches reflect that?
