Nice! Oh to be young and skinny again - I'll pass on the young and stupid though that was a fun tour (the last really fun one for me). I didn't make it to Pittsburgh - I went to the Omni and Greensboro and then went to Deer Creek and Alpine.

I left for those shows straight from this gig at Roanoke College (that's me playing my trusty old '78 LP). Similarly lighter in weight

Here's one that a friend sent me a while back.
This is "The Highland Band" in 11th or 12th Grade, gigging at the Cranford N.J. Community Center.
The name "came to me" (haw haw) after a trip to Aspen Highlands ski area during winter break of 11th grade.
You can kinda see our band logo just above the drummers head (under the clock), which is a tall snow capped mountain peak with a full moon near the top. What you can't see is that there is a skier doing a huge back-scratcher off the top of the peak .
I am playing my first Pedal Steel, a Sho-Bud Pro-1, through a Super Reverb (I should have bought the Twin!).
The Bass player is directly behind the center guitar player, kind of out of view (you can see his right foot).
The other guys are using Deluxe Reverbs i think, and the Bass is an Acoustic brand (the kind with wheels so you tip it back and roll around). There is a Terrapin Station sticker (iirc) on the tom-tom in view (Ludwig set).
Although I have weighed 50lbs more than I did high school (at one point in my life), I have somewhat of a grip on my weight (only about 10 pounds over these days), and except for my new hair color (TOG), I look kinda the same (i think).

As soon as I heard the song Panama Red (in like 9th or 10th grade)... it was all over for me. I had to get a Pedal Steel, which I had never even heard of untill i read the name of the intstrument on the back of an album.

I was super lucky to get snagged by the Country Rock and Southern Rock side of the Dead/New Riders/Marshall Tucker/Charlie Danials/Pure Prairie League/Poco/Eagles/etc.. factor, back in high school.
The guy I bought that steel from worked at our local music store, and had ordered it, tried it, and decided... not for him.
That Steel was $350 with case, back in the day.

I think that's our buddy Steve Andrews, who was the first person to teach me to play the intro to Sugar Magnolia (and the rest of the song) when I was just first starting to play.

You might do a search for "Cranstock Summer Wing".
You might know some of those folks... Jimmy Joe Zoltak?

Hey Pete. Cranford? I was in a country Rock band in Union County around 75 - 78 called Timber. We played Charlie Kelly's in Cranford and Distefano's around 5 points. After that I was in a more popular band called Molly Cribb. Were you around then? Small world. That's when I started playing pedal steel too, around 76.

Hey, I was at that show at Giant's stadium too! Roosevelt, Englishtown. Ah, gone are the days. Although seeing the Dead movie last night brought me right back. Quote of the movie, when trying to break up the argument of film rights "St. STephen!!!!"
