When it doesn't fit anywhere else

Last night was a great show, however during the set break there was tragedy.

not far from where i was, and way too close to tour pro, a young brother jumped through close to inch thing glass and fell 40 feet to his death.

No one knows what he was on, and only one person knows what he was thinking, but please please please, play it safe out there, and watch out for your own, and others if possible. This happened all to quick. I was far enough away to only hear it, and see a bit of the immediate aftermath, any were much closer.

Just sharing this tragedy, so in case anyone else happens upon something like this, maybe you can stop it

How could one go on stage and play a set after a tragedy like that?

Or tripping and seeing that happen--I would be terrified of windows for weeks on end.

I'm curious as to why.

i am reading more and more, and it isn't really clear this guy was on anything.

as for the show, i don't really know if the band knew about it. Though i did see it floating around on twitter within minutes, but really in cases like this it might be better to continue the show to avoid what happened in pittsburgh in 89.

moderation is indeed key, however at 19, that is when you learning about moderation.

also having been there, there were no warning signs that this was about to occur The thing about yelling "Hike" is total BS. Just keep a lookout for your friends and even strangers, this didn't really have to happen

I wrote this elsewhere.....

I was also right there when it happened but I didn't see it occur. It was about 5 minutes into setbreak and I saw a girl I know very well balling and hysterical. In fact, I stood right there when a cop interviewed her 2 minutes after it happened. FWIW---she did not say he yelled hike but that he ran back and forth through the lobby/concession area and then just ran and launched himself head first through the window, which, BTW was only 3 feet from the ground. He had to have been very low to the ground to have done this. Nobody could have stopped him or "talked him down", as it happened before anyone even knew what was going on. His friends said he was kinda of a joker/prankster type and it seems that he might have just been goofing around and didn't realize he could go throught it or something like that. In any event, it's not even clear he was "on" anything---he was there with his Dad as well--he may have just been screwing around and had a very horrible accident. It definitely is not the band, his friends or anyone's fault as unless you had a crystal ball and knew this was gonna happen no one could have done anything. The window was also in a corner area so it was kinda out of the way and off to the side of the area. Terrible tragedy but it's definitely not clear what exactly happened especially in relation to possible intoxicants. He may have been totally sober for all we know.

The craziest thing is the window he broke through was really low to the floor. I don't think I could have physically done what he did if I'd have practiced to do it.

from the furthur discussion board....

You know some of you people are just straight fucking ASSHOLES! I knew Joey & he was MY friend. It's so easy 2talk shit on people u don't know because none of you have lost him. HE WASN'T ON DRUGS & HE DiDN'T DRiNK. So for everyone running they're mouth & ASSuming things..u can shut the fuck up & stop now. K? Thanxx. Joe had been thru a lot this past yr. He lost his best friend 5wks ago in a car accident, 3mos ago he lost 2aunts 4days apart & then he finds out the girl he used to be engaged too, has been taken off life support after almost 6mos of struggling. He had been going thru TONS of shit at home w.his parents [one is also very very sick] & he had the opportunity 2go 2this concert. He LOVED Furthur..seriously. All he did was listen to Furthur, never had any other cd's or anything. He was actually thinking about getting a tattoo to honor them. He had all types of shirts & hoodies made w.Furthur on them lol..he even got some of his friends into them as well. When we found out they were coming 2PGH we knew we had 2get him tickets. He was so excited & then everything in his life started going downhill. He was saving money 2get the tickets & everything. One day we went 2 a pizza shop, and uknow how they have the "Donate a dollar to save Sally's life" cups? He took out this paper bag & put it in the jar. All his money he had saved up. He didnt eat anymore, he was just walking around like a zombie. He's a diabetic & wasnt taking care of himself..and anyone who knows anything about Diabetic's, knows that when they're body starts acting up..they can do CRAZY things. A friend & I dragged him 2the dr's where he refused 2talk 2them & tell them anything. He had severe depression & wldnt even get out of bed. We got him the tickets, thinking he wld take this girl that lived a few houses down..but he didnt even care. Not even a smile. His dad tried over & over again 2get him out of bed & help him feel better but nothing worked. The night of the concert he agreed 2go 2the concert w.his dad if we stopped nagging him [we sang jingle bells for 2hrs straight]. I got a call from him a few hrs later & he thanked me & told me he loved me & appreciated everything we've done 4him. But nothing would make him alive again. He said that his soul had died & he was a walking shell. He started talking crazy then..he didnt remember who he was talking 2. I knew he was going into diabetic shock & acting crazy. He hung up on me & next thing I find out I lost one of my best friends. Joey was one of the sweetest ppl ive ever met. I lost 12ppl in the last 2yrs..and every one of them have impacted me. But losing Joey really hurt. He was my sons godfather. So b4 u sit here & talk shit on someone u know NOTHiNG about. Remember that he was someones SON, BROTHER, GODFATHER, UNCLE. Remember that HiS family & friends are MOURNiNG THE LOSS OF A LOVED ONE. Show respect. If this was your father or brother you would feel the same way!

Wow tough to read. It has got to be tough to be a kid theses days. There has to be a lesson here some where, I know i have been to shows where a bad deal goes down nothing worse than tragedy. Still watch out for you fellow show-goers, who knows the next life you impact may save your own.

This story reminds my why I always loved dead shows and deadhead society. It is cool to be kind

as an aside:
Some one saved my life once, it wasn't at a show. It was at LaGuardia airport I was about to cross the street in front of a city bus doing well over 40 mph. I was looking the other way, I never saw or heard it comming, a very very well dressed man grabbed my arm and pulled me back. I can still feel how close, inches, the bus was it blew my hair back. I was tired and not paying attention and would not have survived. I will never forget that feeling. Humbling

Edit: Goes to show, you don't ever know,
&
Once in a while you get shown the light

Listening to "He Was a Friend of Mine" right now...

I wonder if he went to show, listened to the first set, but felt entirely uninspired. After such a level of anticipation, that must of hit hard. All that is gone, and now this too?

Roll away the dew...
