Anyone else find it amusing that Albert Hofmann has
reached the age of 100? I'm starting to think that
LSD just might be the fountain of youth.

I guess i can agree that shrooms are not as mind expanding as lsd. As far as visuals go, theyre about equal, but I never seem to get into the great conversations or ponderings when im on shrooms, I tend to laugh a lot more tho (even tho ive rolled on the floor in hysterics on acid more than once). Ive always said that its the mental effects of the psychedelic drugs that are its primary function, the visuals are just sweet side effects. However, there have been many times when the visuals catalyze some reaction within my emotions that changes the way I think

psychedelic defined is the visable mind. According to Ralph Metzner they do not produce hallucinations. they bring what is on your mind into the open.

Lets not forget there were a lot of psychological test involving psychedelics. Leary was a psych proffessor at harvard (and Ralph Metzner worked with him and Richard Alpert [Ram Dass]) so in conclusion (according to Metzner) you create your own visions when you are on psychedelics because each mind is different.

Metzner helped Leary write the psychedelic experience

I'm surprised by some of the shroom/acid comments here because I kind of feel the opposite. First off, I find cid's visuals far more intense. Also, I have found a shroom trip to give quite the head trip, a lot more of a "roller coaster ride" and tending towards emotional than with acid where I just feel "wow this is fucking great" the whole time. I wouldn't say I've ever had a fully bad trip but I have had some difficult portions with shrooms, never so with tabs. While I usually have more fun with cid, a shroom trip just feels more organic and natural (probably since it is) and I just love the comedown. Feels like you accomplish something great.

Interesting topic. I have been sober for over 6 years, but I can say I do know what you are talking about. When I used to trip, I would try to smoke and I couldn't because it felt like I was pouring dirt down my throat. To me it was the truth being revealed, I was being shown what smoking really was, dirty and gross. I also learned that tripping wasn't for me, I would always end up thinking about what am I doing with my life etc. and getting freaked out about being a F---k up. But at that point it wasn't enough to keep me from doing it anyway. But back to the smoking, I always found that it was only on the way down that I really liked to puff. It was just too much to deal with while being spun out, I would always end up dropping bud or losing it. So I would just wait until later in the show or after, when I would need it most. I don't mess with any of that stuff anymore so I don't have to worry about it.

me too..

I too have dosed like a billion times, many of them massive amounts and in crazy combinations (a buddy and I once ate a whole vial over a weekend. It was..INTERESTING??...), but have never had anything that resembles other people's described flashback accounts. I no longer do the huge doses and have little time to do so at all. It's a "couple of times a year" thing now. I definitely quit tobacco though and my drinking is limited to special occasions and the shift drink at work on weekends. Anyhow, no flashbacks so far. I suppose with any individual, it kinda remains a myth until it happens. If it ever does...

I have eaten my share of psychedelics (and maybe a couple of other peoples) and have never had a flashback in which I have felt that I was tripping. I heard Leary say to Johnny Carson "the three effects of LSD are short term memory loss long term memory gain and I forget the third."
I have been clean and sober for three years and while I have never felt like i was tripping without putting anything into my system; I have notice that when I am doing repetitive mindless tasks my mind flashes back to earlier times in my life. It can feel like I am actually this could be an effect of prior use or it my just be an effect of aging. When I first noticed this phenomenon I thought it was from my heavy us of LSD but I could be wrong. It is however the closest thing to a flashback I have experienced.
