That is correct. It is totally different than a preamp/buffer. It's the Music Man "Silent Circuit". It is a "dummy coil" used to hum cancel single coil pickups.

I myself own and enjoy one or multiples of every "ingredient of the sauce" mentioned so far. I still say *start* with the easy and free or cheap ones. But that's up to you.

Hate to quote m'self but in this vein, if you can't or won't mod your guitar for an on-board buffer (your best Jerry option), the next best thing would be to try a buffer immediately after your signal leaving your guitar. There are many products you can use for this from stand-alone pedal buffers to many commonly used effect pedals where the buffer remains in the circuit even when the effect is off. You probably already own several. Here's a video to get you started.

I recently picked up a new LP with split pickups as I have been jonsing for that option for a while. Great price during the 2013/2014 dumps at GC. Sorry.

This guitar is big fun, when I use both PUs in split mode into a clean, Jerryish eq'd Fender makes a very clear tone with tight bass.

I've been told that it's the best sounding buffer out there, beats the Cornish, the Sunrise, Avalon, Lehle, Xotic, and others. But it's high voltage vacuum tube with audiophile guts.

My other that has become pretty well liked as a first device on a guitar pedalboard is this one, an ultra-minimal, purist JFET follower type buffer:

But for my personal guitar, I like the onboard buffering as it completely takes cable capacitance out of the picture. If you use a really good, low-cap cable that's 7 or 8' long, that is probably the best way to use an outboard buffer with the least amount of tone loss or alteration.

Well I'm playing a 90s double fat stratocaster. I am drastically considering getting it jerrified purely from an electronic standpoint. I appreciate all of the help. The adamas picks do help but i fiddled with the 5 band eq and it helped significantly. the only problem now is that the highs are so sharp and peircing that it is almost unpleasant.
