Wasn't Brent playing with the Dead during the 80s? Or it is just me?
In my opinion, getting rid of Keith mas a very tactial move, even if it wasn't intentional. 80's was a whole new ball park, Keith's style of playing, though very ellegant and cool, couldn't cut it. What was needed is power and energy and yes, a bit of MIDI.........for god sake, who wasn't using MIDI in those days?!
