Yeah, you could say that, and I would understand. Much like no Grateful Dead without Jerry, or Little Feat without Lowell George.

However, I think the "without Dickie" thing is closer to what is going on with Yes, as both Dickie and Jon are alive and it is the other band members choosing to tour without them.

Based on what is on Jon Anderson's site, it may well be without his blessing.

Disappointed, and very Disrespected

Disappointed that, with the exception of one phone call from Alan, none of the guys have been in touch since my illness, just to find out how I am doing, and how we will foresee the future for YES. And disappointed that they were not willing to wait till 2009 when I’m fully recovered.

And I feel very disrespected, having spent most of this year creating songs and constant ideas for the band, spending time with Roger Dean creating a stage design, also working with VH1 and Sirius and XM Radio to help promote the welfare of YES.

Getting sick was not "on my radar”, and I thank my own angel Janeee and my family for helping me through this difficult time, and the many well wishers, friends and fans alike, for understanding that ''things happen''.

Of course I wish the guys all the best in their 'solo' work, but I just wish this could have been done in a more gentlemanly fashion. After all YES is a precious musical band.

This is not YES on tour...

Jon was a lot mre diplomatic than I would have been. To me this is almost as direspectful as Townshend and Daltry playing a Who concert the day after Entwhistle died.

I follow Yes fairly closely, and the original diagnosis for Jon Anderson was that he was done as far as singing / touring / performing goes. Now, maybe he, being an amazingly positive person, wishes to believe otherwise, but the word on the Yes web site at the time was that Yes was pretty much through.

If the other guys decide to carry on without him, although I personally don't see it as being "authentically" Yes, then that's their call, I suppose. I mean, in reality, Yes has been through numerous personnel changes through the years, and Howe, Wakeman and White aren't even original members themselves, so there you go.

After all, Yes did put out an album without Jon Anderson previously. This isn't the first time they've toured without him.

Where did you see that? I thought I had seen that he was told to lay off for 6 months.

Thanks for posting Jon's side of it. Yep, that pretty much a dirty lowdown move. All good people? Questionable.

ETA: An old friend of mine I was in a few bands with did a lot of show lighting work with Jon Anderson a few years back. He told me Jon was a very, very nice guy and treated everyone with kindness, so that makes it a little worse, in my eyes. He spent a lot of time riding in cars with Anderson for whatever reason, and played him one of our old band tapes. I can't recall now if my friend, or Jon said it, but it was said that "it sounds like Yes joined with the Grateful Dead" (which it sort of did, me being the deadhead and my friend being into Yes) upon hearing this, Jon's wife said words to the effect of "Is Yes merging with the Grateful Dead"? They both just kind of looked at her in shock...

For some reason, they never dropped that "s" from their name.

It sure looks like it by Jon's site, linked above. That's disappointing... I have tickets already and didn't realize there was a behind-the-scenes drama (no pun intended) brewing.
