My wife likes the song becuase she likes the dead, and it's a bad ass song. I'm not saying it's a mood setter or anything like that. She just thinks it rocks. She loves minglewood too, not beacuse it makes her feel warm and fuzy inside but becasue it's a fun song. I always get a chuckle when I hear her singing "my number 1 occupation is stealing women from their other mens"
In fact I don't think there is one dead song that she likes becuase it's a love song. That's why the only grateful dead songs we had playing at the wedding was NFA and box of rain. For loving you got to break out the motown and soul records. Or van morrison.
I guess the point I am trying to say is the reason my woman likes this song so much, is the same reason I like this song so much. Becuase it's great.

I coulda swore DSO played BTW the other night.
I thought they did 1973-11-09 but I must have it wrong?:

Anyway... BTW, a great tune. One that I have messed with on guitar from time to time, but never learned fluently from beginning to end... Probably because I could never sing it and play the Jer parts at the same time.
JDarks has a video segment on this one:

Thanks for the explanation guys and if my wife flips around the meaning while I'm singing it I'm such a tool!

Black Throated Wind is IMOP one of the best songs on Ace. Next to Playin' In The Band of course. The only Bobby song I really can't stand is Looks Like Rain. It's a little too sappy. Also 'Round & 'Round gets to me after a while too.

Awww man how can you not love LL Rain??? That might be my fav Bob tune. Maybe....
But as for BTW, my wife also loves it, as do I. She actually loves pretty much any Bobby tune, but defintely likes this one. It's funny, sometimes I'll catch her actually trying to sing like Bob and emulate his quirky singing style, it's purdy funny

Yeah I am a big LLR fan as well. I liked it better when they sped them up a bit after 72-73. All post hiatus LLR are big time favorites. love 77-83 looks like rains the best. Those early 80's have bob just going nuts at the end. Good stuff there.

Yes, The BTW on Ace is almost an idealized rendition of that song.... If only Jerry got to stretch out a little bit more on it.
