Thanks for the link to that article! A very long but very interesting read so far. Made it about 1/10th of the way through it last night but I plan on reading the rest eventually. I myself am pretty interested in the arguments for/against IP. I tend to think that since ideas are immaterial and not scarce, that it's hard to claim ownership of them. I've thought more about how it applies to patents etc. in industry rather than media. For example, if you invent something, while you should not be required to voluntarily give out your secrets to anyone you don't want to, if someone can take your invention, look at your design and figure out its principles, I believe they should be free to produce and sell similarly designed products operating on the same principles. I haven't thought much about how ownership applies to media products, although at first thought it would seem that a motion picture or a musical performance could not be likened, categorically, to the above example of a patent on an invention. I come from a libertarian standpoint on this stuff as far as voluntaryism and the universally application of non-aggression. I'm going to have to do some more thinking and reading on this!
