If I were to spend $18k on a guitar another three or four hundred on a plane ticket to go make the transaction in person would be worth it. Then again, it'll be a cold day in hell before I could spend that much on a guitar, don't think that would get spousal approval

But usually the people that can afford it don't need to ever dump it on ebay at half price. I would guess he is desperate and that is never a good place to be. It is a beautiful piece and I wonder who did what to what to drive the price into the 30k mark.

$30K? Are Alembics really that remarkable? My buddy has a Furthur he got for about $3500, nice guitar, but the body seems a little small and the Tribute body is just a little off. Can someone enlighten me on the Alembic. I know their basses are highly rated, but I've seen their guitar pickups on ebay for a few hundred bucks.

I thought that the tribute guitars were around 10k and their stage counterparts around 7k. Does this dude claim to have spent an extra 20k on the fretboard and the medalion? 10k a piece?

Options on Alembics add up in a hurry... $500 for continuous wood backplates, $1000 for an extra layer of wood in the body or neck, etc. I bet the fretboard was $3-5k alone. I still don't quite see $30k but it's not that farfetched.
