From the BBC's Whicker's World from 1967. Saw the whole show repeated late the other night on uk tv. Some amazing footage of Haight and Ashbury, the dead and all the crazy cats around at the time.

OK. Correct me if I'm wrong but that's the version off the album, so either it's synced with the video or the version on the album is live from this performance.

I'd always been under the impression this was a studio recording.

Which is it?

Great minds, Bill. I was going to mention that myself! :-)

Pretty sure it's the first, since the Golden Road was only played live about 2-3 times in total and I'm sure the first album was all studio so it has to be synced in.

It's a nice shot of the guys though, I saw this show the other night and wondered if it was on the internet to dig up. Pretty sure footage from it was also used in the Anthem to Beauty dvd. or classic albums whatever it was called.

Thanks Shaggy, I think you're right. As you stated truly a nice piece of video.

It is a decent sync job though. I wonder what that audio sounds like. Probably crap!

I have only seen 3 films that were older than that...Oldest was some film from Kesey from an Acid test (Muir beach? I think)..Dead are doing Viola Lee...that was '66..then jan '66 Human Be-In..again doing Viola Lee..both those were live then at KSAN a lyp sync to Cream Puff War...from The Maze TV Show, KPIX-TV, San Francisco 4/8/67. That Wicker Clip..probably Filmed at Filmore...then synced Golden Rd. to it had to be AFTER the 1st album came out.

That was also in a BBC show called "Sounds Of The 60s" with some other really cool stuff. That was the only Dead footage.

ha that was fun to watch. good sync job. it's a cool trippy song, but I dunno, those backup vocals are a little hard on the ears imo. I really like Jerry's voice on the song, it has a down home vibe but the song is rockin'.
