Just a thought about the other ones - I just downloaded the 11/19/02 3rd disk. I downloaded only because of Susan Tedeschi's presence. Anyways, as I listened I remembered why I didn't like the other ones to begin with - it always seems like there is just too many musicians on stage. Two drummers, two keyboardists . . . There is a strange moment at the end of this set where it seems three songs are going on at once - and not in a good way. I can remember the 7/18/89 where half the boys are playing Sugar Smax and the other half are playing Scarlett, now that was kind. But hearing this stew of musicians playing at minimum three different tunes just left asking "why" - anyways, just my two cents worth. It is odd when we consider that most of these same players would get together in different configurations since and to much better results - I think it really shows how important onstage chemistry is to this style of open/jamming music.
I always thought Phil & friends were better than the Other Ones.
Sometimes I even think DSO sounds like they know what theyre doing better than TOO.
Still, I gotta love em.
