I can't say that I have an extensive collection of live Dead music (yet), but in the ones that I have, I only have a one or 2 songs where Phil really lets out a solid bass solo. I mean Phil's usually doing something pretty funky in the background most of the time, but I've heard that there were some shows where they really let him shine.

Can anybody recommend a good show where Phil gets some good solos?

10/18/72 Dark Star, about 4/5 of the way through: The Philo Stomp! Also on 8/27/72, but its not quite as good. There's an even better Dark Star> Philo around that time too but I can't remember which show.

3/1/69 New Potato outro jam has a remarkable bass-led jam in 13/8 time... or possibly even 25/16! Totally gonzo.
