Hi there i just got a free Imac and it runs great. Its a Imac 17 intel processor etc. But after awhile it turns itself off or goes to sleep and i adjusted in the power options never turn off HD etc. But i cant figure out why it keeps going into sleep mode. Any mac users with any insight ?

is it going to sleep while you are using it or is it sitting idle when it happens?

Just when its been idle for awhile. I put the settings in Energy to never sleep and clicked the lock but it still sleeps after a few hours. When i went to bed the computer was on, when i woke up it was either off or sleeping.

When using the computer it works fine, hasnt shut off on me while using it etc.

Its a Imac 17 w/ Duo Core
1gb Ram
160gb HD
Super Drive

I ran the software updates but still cant get Google Chrome installed. Using firefox currently

Figured it out, the computer was logging out after 60 mins and i believe that was the reason because it has stopped turning itself off or going to sleep after a period of no use.

Go into the System Preferences, look for Energy Saver Icon to access the sleep controls.

I had already done that. The issue happened to be the computer would log out of an account after 60mins thats what eventually led to the computer going into sleep mode.

Thanks though its def appreciated :-)

but first check compatability: http://www.apple.com/macosx/specs.html

Check Surplus Software Stores for v 10.5 but I think it will cost more than the latest version.
I guess my video card is not compatible with Open CL requirement for 10.6 guess ill have to shell out more cash for 10.5 OS

Thanks :-)
