When it doesn't fit anywhere else

I am in the enviable position to be subjected to kids music all day some of it good most of it garbage. We were scrolling through On Demand kids music videos the other day and stumbled onto this guy, Dan Zanes and a song called "Night Owl." My 2 year-old loved it right away now my 4 year-old has taken a liking to it too. We got them the whole CD for Christmas and it's a really well done, folksy, hip collection of kids tunes some he wrote and some cool covers. So if you, like me, have had it up to your eyelids of goofy, lame kids tunes you should check out Dan Zanes' "Night Time."

Anyone else have some good suggestions? Other than the obvious Garcia-Grisman CD :-)

I'm brand new to this club, being a dad that is, and appreciate the recommendations. I'll be sure and post what I find as time goes by.

My son loved Tom Chapin (Harry's brother) when he was a toddler. Tom plays guitar and banjo very well and his songs are interesting.

Funiculi Finicula is an awesome kid song too. My younger one hums it often.

I also like David Weinstone - his song "Grumpy" has made it into our acoustic sets if there's kids there - a lot of them know it from Nick Jr. - we found a Pete Seeger kids CD that's cool. There's one out there that I heard back before I had kids that Sam Bush played on but I can't remember who the artist's name is.

I'v had the dan zanes album for awhile.

let me suggest Medeski Martin and Wood, let's go everywhere.

and if you don't know who MMW is, do yourself a favor, and pick up a few of their other albums

oh it is a kid's album, and they used some of their kids for the lyrics in the songs, The kid loves it, and i love it because I am not listening to "move it move it" for the 1000th time

Our daughter was into Raffi as a kid. She is 7 now (2nd grade) and is in to everything from "Everybody Dance Now" to pretty much anything by "The Chipmunks" or iCarly (Miranda Cosgrove).
This one sounds great with a Jerry style MuIII rig:

Yeah, Dan Zanes is cool!
I have his CD "Catch That Train"..... my kids love it and I even listen to it sometimes, he played at a Halloween Party in Boston and I had him sign the CD after I purchased it,
I told him I use to see his old band "The Del Fuegos" back in the day!

I have two boys age 2 and 4 and they also like "the Fresh Beat Band" on Nick Jr.
and they are both obsessed with anything that has to do with "Thomas the Tank Engine" ..... so I have a CD of Thomas Songs too.

Norton Buffalo...

Bluegrass goes over great with my littlun... Django/Stefan Hot Club stuff is worth a try, or big-band like Duke, Basie, Goodman

I love the orchestral music from classic old cartoons... 30's-50's Woody Woodpecker, Popeye, Felix, Looney Tunes...

Its never too early for the giants of classical music: Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky...

yeah, we've got a bunch of classic Chuck Jones & Walt Lantz WB cartoons on DVD - my kids are warming up to them - Bugs Bunny also helps them with carrot consumption :-)

I also just remembered the CD that Sam Bush played on that I liked so much - it's David Holt "I Got a Bullfrog" - this is a great one too.

The Grateful Dead of course!!

So i am a fan of Mesa Boogie on facebook and they had a link of Alterbridge (not a fan of them) on Leno using their amps. I am playing the clip and my 3 year old asks if they do Fire on the Mountain.

Check them out this summer.
