Not up for sale yet, but I've got a buddy who is looking to sell his 63 or 64 Twin. It's in great shape - has V30's in it, but he has the original Jensens which need a recone. He's seeing $4k or so for these things... does that sound reasonable? Anyone interested?

He's seen $4K retail. but would probably let it go for $3k or maybe $2,500.

Silverface actually starts in '68 ('67 for a few models). The Dead acquire a bunch of new SF amps around the middle of '68

'64 would be the start of Blackface for the Twin Reverb.

'63 is a highly transitional year for most models, with evidence of a mix of styles and/or parts being likely. Great example- I just started playing bass with a group where the guitarist practices on a '63 Princeton Amp. It has a BF front panel and tolex, but it also has (Blonde/Brown style) cream-colored barrel knobs, and brown grill cloth.

Yes - that's what I thought. So I assume the amp for sale is not a Silverface.

If its a 63 or 64 it should be blackface like my 64. Pretty sure the silverface was after 65. And 4K? Gimme a break on that. If it was a perfect mint BLACKFACE Fender Twin, well maybe some collector would give you 4K, but I am pretty sure no one on this board would. Let see some pictures!

Hey, I'm just asking. It may well be a blackface for all I know; I haven't laid eyes on this amp since I got conned into carrying it around our college campus 20 years ago. Or, it may be a later 60's model. I don't really know off-hand.

He's going to do a little looking into serial numbers and stuff.

Hey Fred - I said $4k was what he'd seen similar listed in a shop (Atomic Music, if anyone's in the area and just can't believe it. So give me a break on that.

Here is an awesome website that breaks down the years and models for all Fender amps. Proudly, many of my own images were used as examples (shameless self indulgence, sorrry)- silver Showman, tweed Tremolux, tweed deluxe, brown super, etc...

In general, brown/blond Fenders were 1960-63. Blackfaces start in '64. Silvers began in 1968. I've seen a very few silvers that claimed to be '67s. but questionable. Interestingly, in late '68 CBS changed the big, professional models (Twin, Showmans, etc...) for the MUCH worse. The next year and through 1970, they actually changed them back to the ab763 circuit, but called it aa770 (I think I have that circuit # right).. anyways, imo, some of the very best Twin Reverbs were built in 1970!! They then re-engineered the power transformer for a true 100 watts, then in 1971 added the master volume. It was all over then. =`(
Find an early 1970 Twin for under a grand- try to be sure it's stock- and you have found a diamond in the rough!

PS- Blackface Twins sell for $2,000 MAXIMUM these days. I bought one for $1,500 last year, a '65!

Yes, it looks like a '64 serial number, which is cool because that's probably the most desirable blackface year. Definitely pre CBS. I believe Leo sold Fender in April '65 or thereabouts.

Guys were right, $2000 is your ballpark give or take depending on the condition. The V30's won't help though, that's a "wrong"/odd pairing for a blackface Fender. I don't know if the JBL's will increase the value--maybe, but I'd bet they would help it sell faster.
