I've come to realize that I really overuse variations on the following:

B|-------------------
G|-------------------
D|----------------5--
A|----------5--7-----
E|--3--5/7-----------

I think it works as good starting point and/or theme in many major progressions. Anyone have any suggestions on Garcia riffs and themes I can add to my (very limited) repetoire?

Do what I did! I just listen to my favorite recordings and pick up small licks. Lot's of dvd's could even help you with the fingering.

I asked a while ago about learning more licks and the guys here said I should start by picking up licks from jerry's early 60's then move on, because you can't get 89 jerry without 67 jerry is what they told me, which is soooo true after actually listening to it and picking some up.
