Has anyone out there listened to Pig's solo attempt?

this may be what youre looking for, he never got that done, at least i dont think. but these are alot of the tunes he was playing. pretty good stuff, mostly pig on acoustic with a couple on organ, he does one lightning hopkins tune on organ that is bad, called not time on there i think. anyways enjoy.

looked it up and it said that it never was released. i was reading alot more in depth on this on some pig fan site a while back, i think he died before it ever really got finalized, but maybe he finished and they never released it, not sure.

AMG says it was released in 95 by Capricorn Records. Capricorn says they never released anything by him, though.

One day I found a store online that said it sold the album. It said it was from Capricorn Records and from '95 but, it was "Currently unavalible." On the cover was a pic of Pig with a hat on sideways and he was holding a violin. I think the title was "Ron "Pigpen" McKernen Bring Me My Shotgun."

Isnt it possible that he never did finish it, but the company compiled some of the material he was working on and came out with it on CD? Maybe he never did finish it, and what may be on it now isnt what he intended, but it's still out there.

Kind of like Elliott Smith's last album.

At the risk of being out of line, I never thought that much about Pig's singing and/or playing harmonica and organ. Clearly, he had influence in shaping the Dead's early sound, but when an Lovelight or Good Lovin or Two Souls comes on, I generally hit skip. What I find interesting is the lack of "Pig criticism" - we all have those "way to go Weir moments" You know the ones where he breaks out Easy Answers. Likewise, when Jerry flubbed not one not two but three verses in one song - Pig, on the other hand - seems to avoid that type of criticism. The dead were many things, but for straight up blues - which was Pig's area, I still go to Lightnin' Hopkins or of late, Elmore James.

GDlive.com has had "Pigpen's Apt. Tape" on their site for quite awhile - I downloaded it a few years back and listened once and subsequently lost that disk and have felt no need to replace it - Call me heretical, but for blues, I prefer going to the source. In the same way, for "jamband" I go to the source - and leave the rest behind.

Excuse me for being overly anal, but I don't think the majority of those songs are composed by Pig. CC Rider is not an original song, nor is Sweet Georgia Brown, etc. Dupree's Diamond Blues? C'mon, it's a Garcia/Hunter song....
